Nothing found in syslog that would indicate a dialin-process with .24

In the syslog of .23 I found the following lines:

A similar entry in syslog of .24 is missing, syslog ends with

syslog of .24 has only 140 lines up to that entry, in the syslog of .24 I can find 375 lines...

I could send you the two logfiles per PM if you want...

The timeout on PADO seems to indicate that the router sees the modem, sends the discovery packet to your ISP, but the ISP never answered back.

Could you try leaving build 24 on for 5-10 mins just to see if it does eventually connect, in case it's just a timing issue?

In the mean time if you could email me the logs, that could also be useful (Email them instead of a PM, not sure how PM handles attached files).

Also send me the output of this command, through telnet/ssh, from both FW versions:

Code:
cat /proc/bus/usb/devices

That will show me if the modem is indeed properly detected.

In the mean time if you could email me the logs, that could also be useful (Email them instead of a PM, not sure how PM handles attached files).

email is on the way...

Code cat /proc/bus/usb/devices:
That will show me if the modem is indeed properly detected.

There is a difference between the two versions:

in version 266_23b I get

Code:
I:* If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 3 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=ff Prot=ff Driver=option

and in version 266_24 Beta you can find
Code:
I:* If#= 1 Alt= 0 #EPs= 3 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=ff Prot=ff Driver=(none)

No driver implemented in version 266_24 Beta?

Ciao
Gerald

ipv6 is working on mine
openvpn server is running
I have a 500gb usb drive hooked to router and it's functional

There is some problem with netfilter modules loading in this firmware.
I'm using IPV tunnel with SixXS ipv6 broker.

That's was I see after reboot:

The "modprobe -r xt_length" never ends.
The parent process for modprobe is "525 /tmp/udhcpc bound"

As the result, the rc script cannot do normal initialization, and ntp server is never asked for time. Also, udhcpc does not renegotiate the lease (my provider expires it in 300 seconds) and Internet connection stops very soon.

When I disable IPv6 tunnel, it works just fine.

Thanks everyone. I'm sorting through the feedback received.

Some of the reported issues (especially around the Ethernet Port status) have been fixed. Changes so far since the first Beta release:

Code:
   - CHANGED: Temperatures on Sysinfo page will now update every 3 seconds.
   - CHANGED: Connections page now uses Ajax for slightly better rendering
   - FIXED: 1-3 seconds delay loading the Sysinfo page due to Ethernet ports query.
   - FIXED: Temperature on Performance Tuning page would fail to update if a radio was disabled.
   - FIXED: Ethernet port status would not display under IE.
   - FIXED: Display of Connections under IE

State of the other issues:

  • 3G modem not being properly configured by the firmware: I'm going to send the reporter some test builds to help isolate the cause, since I have no way to reproduce it myself, and at a first glance I can't think of any change that might be causing it (there has been no change related to USB drivers). In the mean time, I'm interested to hear about anyone else using a 3G modem, and whether it's working for you or not.
  • >2TB HDD support. I'm going to order a 3 TB HDD this week so I'll be able to do some more thorough testings.
  • IPv6 tunnel. I got mixed reports so far. Going to test it myself using my 6in4 tunnel with HE.

The other reported issues should be looked into during the week. In the mean time, please continue reporting your results, both positive and negative.

I cannot reproduce your problem here with my IPv6 HE tunnel. Do you have any custom script or firewall rules that would use the xt_length module and prevent it from being unloaded by the firmware?

The following command should tell you if it's used:

Code:
lsmod | grep xt_length

Did you have the same issue with previous versions of the firmware, or just with 24 beta 1?

EDIT: I noticed that there is indeed a dead modprobe process on my router as well now, I just didn't experience any WAN issue probably because my lease hasn't expired yet. It's odd since running modprobe -r from the shell immediately returns with a proper error message. Could be a compatibility issue introduced with the new busybox.

They're raw values returned by the thermistor. To convert them into the actual temperature, you have to divide them by two, and add 20 to them.

[*] IPv6 tunnel. I got mixed reports so far. Going to test it myself using my 6in4 tunnel with HE.
My NTP clock doesn't automatically set itself either... though that's easy to sort out by logging into an TELNET/SSH session

Code:
ntpclient -h ntp.pool.org -s

I also have an ipv6 tunnel with HE. The ipv6 tunnel connects ok but when it's connected I get repeated comments from miniupnpd (shown below) I think it did this before but didn't complain in the log?

Code:
Jan 27 09:51:40 miniupnpd[599]: Failed to get ip address for interface
Jan 27 09:52:32 miniupnpd[599]: Failed to get ip address for interface
Jan 27 09:53:14 miniupnpd[599]: Failed to get ip address for interface
Jan 27 09:53:49 miniupnpd[599]: Failed to get ip address for interface

Also when running the example firewall rules ip6tables complains about not being able to find the chain... I don't know that much about ip6tables so perhaps it's me.

Code:
admin@RT-N66U:/tmp/home/root# ip6tables -A INPUT -j DROP
ip6tables: No chain/target/match by that name
admin@RT-N66U:/tmp/home/root# ip6tables -I FORWARD 2 -m state --state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
ip6tables: No chain/target/match by that name
admin@RT-N66U:/tmp/home/root# ip6tables -A FORWARD -i v6in4 -o br0 -p all -j DROP
ip6tables: No chain/target/match by that name
admin@RT-N66U:/tmp/home/root# ip6tables -A FORWARD -i br0 -o any -p all -j ACCEPT
ip6tables: No chain/target/match by that name
admin@RT-N66U:/tmp/home/root# ip6tables -A FORWARD -i br0 -o v6in4 -p all -j ACCEPT
ip6tables: No chain/target/match by that name
admin@RT-N66U:/tmp/home/root# ip6tables -A FORWARD -i any -o br0 -p all -j ACCEPT
ip6tables: No chain/target/match by that name
admin@RT-N66U:/tmp/home/root# ip6tables -A FORWARD -j DROP
ip6tables: No chain/target/match by that name
admin@RT-N66U:/tmp/home/root#
Apart from these things for me it's working well.

Thanks.

Yes, I looked at my router log this morning at about 10AM, and the time showing there was 2AM. I checked the timezone to be sure that I'd changed it, and the timezone is correct. It isn't exactly 8 hours off, etiher, so it isn't just displaying GMT. This has always worked, so I was surprised to see that.

ntp.pool.org is not too reliable to get the time with in my experience. I've since changed it to the closest ntp server in my area and so far time is not problematic anymore.

In IE9, both Traffic monitor and Performance tuning show half screen.

Looks fine here in both IE 9 and 10. You might try dumping your browser cache, cookies, and then exit and re-invoke your browser.

Works fine for me as well under IE10.

Try a different browser just to see if the issue is limited to your IE setup. You can also try opening the error console (Press F12, then go to the Console tab) to see if there is any specific error. Note that there will be many warnings, some of the webui isn't very IE-friendly.

I also had problems initially with traffic monitor and was getting an error in the logs showing a file problem. I reset the data files and advanced data files and it seemed to do the trick for me.

I did not watch specifically for stuck kernel modules, but for sure I never lost WAN in 5 minutes after reboot with v23.

OK. So further investigation from my side it not needed then?

I have also a problem with IPv6 in v23: ip6 packets lost or not routed between LAN and 6in4. This problem may exist in legacy firmware as well. I did not investigate it deeper yet.

By the way, is there any IPv6 capable tcpdump exist for this firmware? The one I've installed with optware cannot decode this protocol properly.
