Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.10 is now available

Everything appeared to be working for a few days when changing to HTTPS only, but this night everything went to the crapper again. Weirdly enough, it even persisted when I disabled the app and the HA integration. Really scratching my head here. Do the BE routers suffer the same issue?

What I mean by "went down the crapper" is that devices are randomly disconnected and reconnected, the network in general is very unstable and I get constant notifications that devices have lost the connection to the internet. Went back to 9_2 to see if it would help, but the logs are constantly chatting, changing channels for nodes, disconnecting and reconnecting devices and I have a slew of CFG80211-ERROR messages.
I had the same this morning after running stable for multiple days. Have reverted to 9_2 to get is stable again.

If you manage to get this release working for you I’m happy to hear

Hi all,
I have issues with the latest firmware 3004.388.10 on my Asus AX88U.
At first, the dirty flash worked correctly, but then, things started to go haywire since I rebooted my router; Although both my Wifis 2.4 and 5 GHz are activated separately, the Wifi icon in MerlinWRT showed half green, half grey, and the network devices don't have Wifi.
I tried to reboot, activate/deactive the WLAN, and ultimately, factory reset and configured the stuff all over again, to no avail; the Wifi network is just unavailable/invisible on my devices, it can't be detected.
Anyone else encountered this?
Thanks for your help.

Edit: Oh by the way, I've noticed an additional detail: my Wifi 5 GHz only offers Channel 0...

... and ultimately, factory reset
You may want to try a hard factory reset if you haven't tried it already.

If you have a USB drive attached to the router, make sure to disconnect the USB drive before performing a hard factory reset and don't reattach the USB drive until the router is verified as working properly post reset and manual configuration. Also, avoid importing a previously saved router.cfg too, just do a manual configuration after the hard factory reset.

Super! That worked! Thank you!!!
Edit: Unfortunately, it didn't last... the next reboot gave me the same problem all over again.
I've submitted my log to Gemini, and it said there was no trace of malware activity... :(

Were you or have you used AiCloud? If so you may have been infected by malware which causes similar issues to what you are reporting. There is a big thread on it with some suggestions in later posts of people to contact for help in fixing issues.
Malware damaging ASUS routers?

What is your WiFi config for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, in general and professional screens?

Hi both,
Thanks for the lead about the malware. I'll investigate it further (to my knowledge, I do not use AiCloud).
I only managed to resolve my problem making the router survive a reboot by downgrading down to firmware 3004.388.9 for now. Seems the version 9_2 already had the issue, but I had never noticed...

Edit: But now I have a different issue: the usual URL to access the router (https://192.168.1.1:8443) gives me a connection refused (tried several browsers and machines).
However, the router is still accessible through asusrouter.com. I confirm my gateway is 192.168.1.1...

Those of you having issues such as http (the webui) being unstable or the app not working I suggest you check the clock on the router. I’m in the UK and the DST rules were not the right one so the clock was off by 1hr. Fixing it has restored stability to the webui and the app works well too.
Hopefully it helps others too.

I thought router access is 192.168.50.1

Mine is, I assumed all or most are.
The router login is keyed to the one listed on the sticker that came on the router. There have been issues in the past that show changing it can cause problems.
Some of the newer models have 10.x.x.x.
I would suggest changing it back to the original and see if it makes a difference for whatever model you have.

People RMerlin does not support the Asus App. He has been painfully clear on this. You want the App to work go back to stock Asus firmware.
Mobile app problems are a symptom of something else at the router end, where for example, pages just randomly fail to render as though no response to the browser request, etc.

I don't think anyone is expecting any focus or fixes on the app itself. It seems like it is a victim that is impacted by something related to the changes between 9_2 and 10_0.

Yes, I agree. As I described earlier, the "fix" (change to https only) worked for a few days. Than it went all sideways again. So I switched off any 3rd party security, switched off and removed the Home Assistant integrations., removed the app from my phone and did another fhard factory reset. The problems stayed, without the suspected culprits active. Out of desperation, I reverted to 9_2. But even after doing that, the weirdness, instability and chatty logs stayed. So, as I see it, the app not working with 10, might be one of the symptoms of the problem, but it's not the only symptom and somehow, even after reverting back to the previous version, something stayed behind it seems.

I would look at it this way... if you want to use the app, then you need to stick with the stock Asus firmware, as it's designed to work with it. If you want to use custom Merlin FW, then prepare yourself for no longer having access to an app, because it's functionality will not work for the most part with Merlin FW. It's an opportunity to learn how to use other means of managing your router with remote access, SSH, etc.

Even without using the App, I had to revert to Beta1 to acieve some stability. When things went sideways after a few days, logging and several scripts didn't log their activies (including BACKUPMON) not just at the router, but even the nodes. Scribe went crazy, ignoring the filters, logging messages into the wrong locations (even tried the Developement branch) and all sorts of other stuff filling up the logs too. Since getting back to Beta1 (still not using the App out of an abundance of caution, even for just visibility as it caused havoc with both the http and http process on the router) stability has returned and the logs are what they should be or at least my normal and scripts are behaving. Though the other night, on the router at Midnight I did get a flurry of "Router kernel: <unknown>: hw csum failure" knocking every thing off line but that only lasted a few minutes and the router recovered, and has been stable since.

Consindering stepping up to Beta2 to see how the router and nodes react and if it all remains stable after a few days, before getting taking another shot with the release. This would be a whole lot easier if one thing went sideways, and it happened with more immediancy and consistently. But the problems appear randomly after a few days, and impacts everything but not in a way that make it easy to point to any one thing.

The only thing left is, if it happens again, when I get to the release, is a HW reset of the router and nodes, but I'm really not looking forward to that  and seeing of that helps 🤷‍♂️

@aex.perez living the Beta life! LOL
