Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 3006.102.4 Beta is now available

Ha. I am so old I thought you were talking about OS/2. I still call mine .bat files
OS/2. That brings back memories. A lot of our servers and workstations at a previous employer used OS/2.

I have a small home network, consisting of (2) windows 11 computers, a Synology NAS, various ChromeBooks and tablets, Bose speakers, and a managed switch connected to (2) Raspberry Pi's running pihole.
When I read the changelog 3006 file for betat2, I saw that I had to learn about vlans since the setup I've been using for some time uses the earlier definition of "Router" in global redirection. So this afternoon, I decided to see if I can get the new definitions setup. First I updated the RT-AX86U-Pro firmware to beta2 (from beta1) and after the router rebooted, I went to the LAN page to see what had happened. Nothing, everything worked fine. 3 hours later everything is still working fine. The (2) Pi's get static IPs, the DHCP Server has those IPs in the DNS server fields, when I open up the pihole admin pages there is no huge amounts of traffic on either Pi.
I was surprised at this and wonder if I'm missing something.

Note what was indicated earlier in the beta discussion:
https://www.snbforums.com/threads/a...ta-is-now-available.94366/page-16#post-952220
And a heads-up for Pi-Hole users that rely on DNS Director to force clients to use the Pi Hole, you need to now add the Pi-Hole IP from LAN DHCP DNS 1 as a "User defined DNS" in DNS Director and set that mode instead of Router.
And what was indicated in the 3006.102 change log: https://www.asuswrt-merlin.net/changelog-3006
- CHANGED: Setting DNS Director to "Router" will now always
redirect to the router's own IP. Previously it
would redirect to the first DNS server configured
on the DHCP page (which defaults to the router
itself).
If you need DNS Director to redirect to an IP
configured in your DHCP settings, use a Custom DNS
entry in DNS Director. This makes it more consistant
with what the name implies, and was also necessary
for improved Guest Network support.
The solution, as indicated, is to input the Pi-Hole IP address into one of the the User Defined DNS fields, then change Global Redirection from Router to that User Defined DNS #. Example with a setup running two Pi-Holes.

How does that work for the second Pi?

I use Putty64. Well it's easy to get into SSH, what I hate is editing files! That is not 'Windows friendly'.
Use WinSCP and notepad++

Editing easy

It doesn't work for a second Pi-Hole. It will redirect to what ever single IP address you put into the User Defined DNS field that is selected for Global Redirection.

Edit to add: Keep in mind, when DNS Director's Global Redirection is used in conjunction to the Pi-Hole IP addresses input into the LAN > DHCP DNS fields and or any manual DNS addresses input into the manual DHCP IP addresses it is likely the global redirection by DNS Director is rarely used. Typically it would be only those few requests or devices that try to bypass the previously configured DNS addresses.

Seven days issue free operation! Looks like this beta is golden on the large scale of things for basic functionality. Thanks for all your guys development on this. I send over a small donation the other day to keep your coffee coming.

MLO still not worth using. (Not Merlin)
BSD still doesn't play nice with Apple or Enterprise controlled devices. (Not Merlin)

Don't worry about the port log seen here, I have an old wireless light controller that just seems to reset its port every 24 hours. I have tried everything short of getting a newer model but the behavior is not causing any issues and is not a router based problem, either.

MLO is barely worth using. I did run into this researching using MLO on Linux - https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/...i-driver-with-intel®-killer™-features.326229/ - updating Intel drivers on Windows to use DCT. This did help without upgrading to 24H2. I run 95% Linux now, and probably will have to bite the bullet on 24H2 (or worse) before October.
I didn't mean to derail, but MLO has potential.

I know that the Martin amtm stuff needs an update, but without this update is not one I can use now. But Merlin thanks for all the work 🙏

Actually, amtm is a third-party add-on by @thelonelycoder. Not Martin
So, who am I then? decoderman?
Anyway, is there a problem with amtm in his beta version? I have no way to test it.
