New clients not showing

One thing I have noticed is that the client list no longer automatically shows a new client when a new wireless device is added, and when I hit the refresh button it just spins and shows no clients, this was never the case with my AC66u before.

I rebooted my router and it seems to have resolved the issue. Only thing I did differently tonight was I was tinkering with ipv6

I do have a SDHC memory card in mine. Wonder if how it is being, or not being, addressed in new version could have any impact on the WPA/5GHZ thing I'm experiencing?

I don't have SDHC memory card. I have no problem with WPA2 5Ghz. Works perfectly with my aforementioned Broadcom wireless adapters.

I guarantee if you were on Comcast or another ISP that uses DHCPv6 instead of RAs to assign addresses, you never got an IPv6 WAN address. For some users this caused issues. For others, like me, it didn't (other than the missing entry on the IPv6 page of the System Log).

I am on Comcast and IPv6 was fine even on the IPv6 log page I could see the addresses for all clients with 38em.

"with my aforementioned Broadcom wireless adapters."

I get a little lost on the 2x2 thing but is a broadcom 2x2 dualband, 2.4 and 5ghz?

I use linksys AE2500. Google "linksys AE2500 wiki dev" and you'll see the specs. It uses Broadcom BCM43236 chipset. Yes, it's dual band.

For iPhone 5, or ipad mini (non retina), google " ipad mini ifixit teardown" and you'll see that the iPhone 5 and the ipad mini (non retina) use the same exact/identical wifi module.

Hi guys how are you?

I just bought a 68U about 2 months ago and was using the Asus FW so far, should i need to do something special to install the Merlin`s one? Should i make a factory reset or it`s not necessary and i just need to update over the latest asus build in the management section?

I know that this could be a boring and a fool question, but it`s better to ask before make somethinh that we are not sure with :)

Thanks

The iPHONE 5 I have is certainly dual band.

The 2x2 thing gets a little confusing in terms of being dual band when they use it for a 2.4ghz card that can handle 40mhz and get 300mbs.

And the B1 model may or may not have the .2 cfe that needed to be updated to .3 inorder to use the 64k firmware.

Hard to see how the sdhc card might be impacting 5ghz band and WPA but if that is the only difference between my unit that has issues and other's who don't, well I guess I should test it and see.

Hard to explain how everything works perfectly with 732.31 versions and then just 5ghz WPA has issues.

It is the case the newer versions including this .39 one have fewer choices for security as compared to 732.31 so something is different in the code. Here's my choices in 732.31.

it's better to flash merlin's fw then do a factory reset . settings are easy to configure

The only thing I can suggest is go to your iPhone settings:

Setting>general>reset>reset network settings

Then on your router, test it by changing to a plain jane password like.....abc1234defg

Maybe the router doesn't like your password. No idea. All I can tell you is mine works fine on all firmware for 5ghz WPA2 personal.

I has some very mixed results with the explicit beamforming on the 5Ghz band (enabled by default). Disabling it has given me a much more stable connection (as stable as the 2.4ghz)

Another great firmware - thanks Merlin.

I'm interested in setting up the DNS filtering under parental controls per device. Are you required to sign up at all to any of the three services offered or are they good to go as soon as you turn them on via the router?

Thanks,

HB

yandex blocks my tablet but not my laptop no matter what i do with dns set to auto.

norton on childrens setting doesn't try and stop playboy.com.

Thanks. I've given them ago and they do all seem to work 'out if the box' to a degree. However, they all prevent radio streaming to my Squeezeboxes if turned on. This kills the usefulness of this feature for me unless anyone knows of a workaround please?

Just pick your squeezebox from the list and set Filter Mode to none for it.

USB Shared Transfers and QOS

Hi,

With this update, file transfers on Wired network is not any more limited by
QOS .

I have now 29MB/s.

That's Fine.

I can setup my real ISP number now : 16Mbs Dl 1Mbs Up.

checked on AC56U.

Thank you. I didn't realise that you could set a global setting and then add individual devices as exceptions. I have resolved it by adding my server (where the LMS Squeezebox server resides) as an 'none' and all is fine now.

The DNS filtering per device is a great feature. I can now switch off my providers homesafe settings (TalkTalk) which whilst good, applies by brute force to the internet connection. With these new settings on the ASUS I can tighten up restrictions on my kids' devices (and those they use) and loosen them on my own. Perfect.

I have the what seems to be the same issue. I also had a 66u prior to my 68u and used merlin firmware the 66u and didn't notice this issue. But I only had 66u a couple of weeks before the 68u went on special so returned the 66 and purchased the 68.

DNS filtering does not prevent search results from showing up. It prevents from accessing sites that are specifically blocked by Norton. I just tested with www.playboy.com, and Norton ConnetSafe did block it. So, it's working properly.

Well, Norton does *not* block "redtube.com" while Yandex family does.
So the term "properly" is somewhat in the eye of the beholder. :D

FWiW, as it seems, any change to a client specific setting in the DNS Filter will only apply *after* the clients reconnects (will be (re-)issued the IP).
Does this actually mean this does just change the DNS entry/config submitted
via the DHCP request/grant to the client?
Also, I do not see any port-forwarding rules for this client in the router.
IMHO, a 12-year old will simply work around that kind of client-side-only "restriction" in sub-second

Of course I clicked on the links Google came up with.
Everything shows up when "Norton Children" is active.
Including the website above.

When I set "Yandex Family" I get the funny Russian site, when I click on the Google porn links. :)

If I change filter settings on the router, I also do a ipconfig /flushdns on my test client. (Windows 7 laptop.)
I also close and open my browser again to make sure I don't see my browser caching.

To me it seems only Yandex is working properly.
Using "Norton Children" gives a false sense of security.
