Got an simple and easy question for you guys, what are the addons for optimal performance then best addons for security?

Thanks

It's not a simple question. So that others can offer informed suggestions; you may want to provide more information. Such as:
  • Your router model
  • Firmware version
  • Are you using AiMesh
  • What existing Add-On scripts are you running
  • What performance issue(s) you are trying to address
  • What security issues you are trying to address
  • What previous steps have you taken for performance and security
If you haven't done so already you should see the pinned/tacked Asuswrt-Merlin Addon Software Catalog thread for the various add-on scripts and read about the one's that you think or feel you need to use for your environment or situation.

Great response to the question, @bennor! ;)

Need more @bennor answers and less "read my signature".

Diversion, pixelserv-tls, Skynet, YazFi, scribe, connmon, ntpMerlin, scMerlin, uiDivStats, uiScribe, Unbound, FlexQoS, Disk Check, 10GB Swap, 240GB SSD

Based on that list, you cannot be helped, @Tech9 :p

Forgot to mention RTRHTR and WXMON on my private jet.

By the way, I've lost an engine last week. Fell off somewhere over Niagara. Search and rescue this Friday. It was the good one.

You really do not need add-ons for performance. Security? Maybe Diversion for add blocking.

Too bad tech9 lost an engine over Niagara. Maybe that is what caused a power spike in Pennsylvania?

what are the addons for optimal performance
Not using any would be optimal for performance, since most add-ons would add a load to the router.

best addons for security?
Depends on your needs. If you don't expose any port to the Internet, then you don`t need any add-on. The router`s firewall will already drop any inbound connection.

If you have publicly exposed services, then having an add-on that filters inbound connections, like Skynet, might be useful, depending on the level of security you desire.

If you just want to protect your LAN clients against malicious websites, then you can either use an ad blocker like Diversion, or use a DNS filtering service like AdGuard or Cleanbrowsing. Using a DNS filtering service will be better performance-wise.

Security and performance are always a balancing act. The more security you add, the less performance you will generally have.
