Can I use a period in DNS Suffix?

On most router firmwares I have used, when you can set a DNS suffix, it doesn't mind (or at least doesn't tell you not to) if you set a DNS suffix for the lan with a dot as part of the suffix: "mynetwork.lan" for instance.

AsusWRT, however, says "The domain name for clients who request an ip address from the dns server. It can only contain alphanumeric characters and the dash symbol." This is something I've not encountered before, and I have noticed that sometimes my PCs that pull an IP can not be resolved by the fqdn: "mypc.mynetwork.lan" for instance.

Does asuswrt have an issue with dots that I should avoid, or is that statement in the tooltip incorrect?

Sounds like a bad translation job at some point, or someone confused hostname and domain names.

Using a dotted local domain is perfectly fine.

Thanks RMerlin. I appreciate it. I'm not sure if your firmware grabs that text from one of ASUS's online sites or something, but it's in yours too. Only now the field seems to be labeled "RT-AC66R's Domain Name".

I don't change any content in the dictionnary files.
