Does Roaming Assistant Not Work Anymore ?

You realize that Apple has billions of samples across the same amount of networks and they have total control over their wifi stack across multiple platforms over the past 15 years...

They're likely right with thresholds...
To be honest they aren't lol Meaning I have my Mac deciding to stay on a node all the way on the opposite side of my house. If I manually toggle the wifi.. It connects to the right one lol.

Maybe in your house - my house is just fine... Synology just works...

Again - this might be one of those things - Asus has never been open/friendly with Apple devices - long known issues..

I understand I’m trying to see if there’s a way to fix this known issue. Other than that I love the Asus system.

What type of hardware do you have if you’re saying yours is working correctly? Also do you use Smart Connect? Do you separate the 2.4ghz SSID from the 5GHZ ?

I had this issue for months. None roamast entry in log, only the roamast: ROAMING Start... And, of course, the feature doesn't work.

But now, after messing with nvram params without any result, I have discovered where is the issue (in my case). Roaming Assistant doesn't work with Guest Networks. I deactivated and removed the configuration of my guest network, and Roaming Assistant is working again as expected. In logs, now there are roamast entries, like determine candidate node, disconnect weak signal strength station, etc.

I have 2x GT-AX6000 running Merlin 3006.102.7_2, but this issue is present along all 3006 IIRC. FYI, you can see all my configuration here but I use the same SSID for 2.4 and 5GHz with Smart Connect.

It's curious, because if you select only one AP to use the Guest Network, Roaming Assistant works in the unselected node, of course without any real effect because there is not candidate nodes to move the client. To see logs from the node you must access via SSH and logs are in the file /jffs/syslog.log. You can see them in real time with the command: tail -f /jffs/syslog.log

Best regards.

This sounds like firmware bug. What ASUS calls "Roaming Assistant" or also called "Minimum RSSI" in different make devices is parameter related to the physical interface and not the logical interfaces attached to it.

Yes, it's a bug. I always used guest networks and roaming assistant worked without issues.

but this issue is present along all 3006

You report the Packard V-1650 doesn't run smooth with 3006 fuel. Worked without issues... when?

I have the GT-AX6000 since May, 2022; always with Merlin. In the beginning, they have worked fine without any issue, with the 386 branch, and then the 388.

I have had several routers with Merlin, like the RT-AX88U and the RT-AC5300. Both with several issues of DHCP server and bridge interface.

I use them with Unbound and IPSec VPN; Privoxy was running too for several months. I never have had issues with these.

Did you report the issue in any of Asuswrt-Merlin 3006 release threads?

It most likely comes from the 3006 base used, but you can't report it to ASUS from Asuswrt-Merlin firmware.
