Hello there,

we are moving to a new rented house in a few days and I want to "upgrade" my network a bit. Until now I had a rather small home with just a ASUS RT-AC87U and Merlin software.

I was planning to use Ubiquiti hardware because I heard that they have a nice GUI and the setup is easy. The more I read about Ubiquiti the more I think that something is not right with their hardware: too expensive, switches run hot, PoE ports die, the hardware is outdated and so on. I created a network diagram with Ubiquiti stuff. Could you guys make hardware recommendations based on the diagramm?

It looks like I'd need the following hardware.
  • security gateway (VPN, Firewall, DNS, DHCP, maybe PfSense)
  • switch (with PoE?)
  • 3 APs but also wired connection on each of my 3 floors
Which vendor, which hardware to use in a fully new network?

Kind regards
Keanu
