IPv6 tunnel 6in4 on ASUS Router

Hi guys, as we all know, IPv4 addresses was being depleted, now IPv6 is coming, let’s try it.

There’re various of IPv6 transition technology, like Dual Stack, Tunneling, Translator.

Today, we’ll talk about how to use IPV6 tunnel 6in4(a Tunneling transition technology) on ASUS Router with ASUSWRT FW.

Step1. Go to the website of tunnelbroker (https://tunnelbroker.net) and register an account. Please be mentioned this website have a weird rule that only allow change setting twice one day per account, otherwise the account will be locked.

Step2.Create Regular Tunnel following the step marked with red rectangle. (Please Enable ”Respond Ping Request form WAN ” first on router Firewall-General page ) (3.jpg)

Step3.After “Create Tunnel ” finished you will get a list, then login router and go to IPv6 page, choose connection type as Tunnel 6in4, fill in the blank which the address you get from tunnelbroker as below.(4.jpg)

Step4. Now we need to check whether we have the connectivity capability of IPv6 or not after “Apply Setting” on router setting page.

  1. First, make sure your device can get IPv6 address. Take example on windows, input “ipconfig/all” on DOS, you will get the IPv6 address

  2. After your device get IPv6 address, you can go to an IPv6 test website like http://ipv6-test.com to test you internet environment.

Step5. Now you will be able to surfing internet by IPv6 address, let’s enjoy it…

I have two problems with using TunnelBroker

1. My Netflix becomes American. Even if I use the server from my country. Then the kids get upset because all their shows are gone
2. The tunnel seems to be limited to 50MB, sometimes much less, when I have a 200MB connection

It's good for testing the possibilities of IPv6 though

Hi, let me clarify your questions,

Q1,I saw you location was Nederland, so you can watch Netflix which become American when using IPv4 and all the shows are gone after change to IPv6 tunnel 6in4 ?

Q2, The tunnel may be limited by tunnel server, I’m not quite sure, may I know how you test the bandwidth?

Right, so basically, on IPv4, my Netfilx is in Dutch, which it should be. But with the IPv6 tunnel enabled, Netflix will of course use IPv6. However, my Netflix then becomes the American version. Hence, there is no Dutch audio and subtitles on movies etc. When you look at sites like http://ipv6-test.com/ or http://db-ip.com (and multiple others), it shows that the ISP is Dutch (because the tunnel server is in Amsterdam of course), but this is not what Netflix uses to determine your location. According to Netflix support, they use some other place (I forget the name) which basically uses a database from http://www.ip2location.com/ which detects my location as being in California, USA... because this is where HurricaneElectric are.
I tried numerous support sites trying to resolve this, but I never got a response so I'm not sure if it has now been corrected in the past month or so.

Second, I use speedtest, or at least the one from my ISP. They have both an IPv4 and an IPv6 speedtest. I've also tried other ones such as http://ipv6-test.com/speedtest/, but they are all the same. The most I ever got on my IPv6 was around 50MB, although it usually hovers around 10-20MB. If you read here, it seems like it's a general limit on the tunnels which everyone experiences.

hi, I'm confused that, your Netflix become American version and no Dutch audio and subtitles on movies after change to IPv6, it's seems expected result. So you still want to get Dutch audio and subtitles on movies at this time?

Did you select the Amsterdam Hurricane server in your tunnel setup?
It shows in the tunnel ID as "...ams1.ipv6.he.net"

Yes. The goal is not to fool Netflix to thinking I'm American, it's just to use IPv6. What's confusing?
Anyway, they're apparently thinking of removing the geo limitations, so then that won't matter much anymore anyway.

Yes

Exactly... But I'm not asking for help in fixing it. I was just telling you what my experience was with the tunnel... Slow, wrong location for certain things.
I cannot confirm the Hurricane tunnel is slow, Internet speeds on IPv4 direct with my ISP and on IPv6 through the HE tunnel are equal. It might be there is a limit to the tunnel, if so it seems my ISP subscription is the limiting one.
