The FCC photos for this unit make it hard to make out the exact model Atheros chips in the unit. What did I do then? I opened it up and took the time to get the gunk off each chip from the thermal pads.

I have had good performance on the 5Ghz band, but this router keeps giving me drops in throughput on the 2.4GHz band. The other night I had a few roughly 3GB each files to transfer to and from my laptop to/from my ReadyNAS Duov2 and all the sudden the transfer rate will drop 45% to 60%. Never had this issue with the WNDR3800 in 2.4GHz band.

At any rate, here are the hardware stats I was able to confirm opening the unit:
  • SOC & 2.4GHz Radio: Atheros AR9344-BC2A (2x2 MIPS 74K @ 560 Mhz)
  • 5GHz Radio: Atheros AR9580-AR1A (3x3)
  • Ethernet: Atheros AR8327-BL1A (10/100/1000)
  • Flash: 128MB Micron 29F1G08ABADA
  • RAM: 128 MB Nanya (NT5TU32M16DG-AC x 2)
