I've had decent luck with the drivers from Windows Update - intel keeps those fairly current..

I'm experiencing issue uninstalling ac7265 driver 18.40.0.12. Windows 10 keeps re installing this driver. I try to roll back to factory driver from Asus driver website but nope windows 10 keeps installing newer driver so frustrating.

Check around the web, there are ways to convince windows update to not update drivers automatically...

I have a 7260ac which is somewhat similar and uses the same driver (18.33.72 if you install 19.60) and I have no issues. Try 19.60 on Intel's website website, it's always more up to date than drivers on Asus's site, because 18.40.12 means it uses the 18.33.3.2 driver.

If you install 18.40 you actually use 18.33.2 for the 7260 and 7265.
  • Driver version = 18.40.4.2 for Windows® 10 for 3168, 18260, 8260, 3165, and 17265 adapters.
  • Driver version = 18.33.3.2 for Windows® 10 for 7265, 3160, and 7260 adapters.
Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software version = 19.60.0
  • Driver version = 19.60.0.7 for Windows 10 for 8265, 18260, 8260 adapters.
  • Driver version = 19.51.0.4 for Windows 10 for 3168, 3165, and 17265 adapters.
  • Driver version = 18.33.7.2 for Windows 10 for 7265, 3160, and 7260 adapters.

Using 19.40.0.3 on my Thinkpad Yoga 15, not a single issue with it.

Maybe Lenovo just renames the driver sub package versions so as not to confuse end users, that's all I can think of. I mean I can see people being confused as to why the downloaded version and installed version aren't the same.

I attached an image of device properties after 19.60 Install.

I experienced a lot of instability with the AC7260 when I first installed one in my HP Envy i7 laptop. I finally settled on the Intel 17.15.0.5 driver and have not experienced any instability in about three years. The driver date is 2/22/2015. Interestingly, even though I've gone through several updates, including to the Creator's Update, the driver has not been updated to anything newer. And if it isn't broken, why break it?

Personally, I'd start with the one I'm using as a "baseline" driver, and then see if it's stable and then try updating progressively to a more recent driver (if that's what you think you need to do).

BTW, if you want to prevent Windows 10 from automatically updating a problematic driver, try downloading and running the Windows "Show/Hide" utility (http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f22d5fdb-59cd-4275-8c95-1be17bf70b21/wushowhide.diagcab).
