Is exhaust fan needed for BE96U

I bought a brand new Asus BE96U router.
I have around 20 devices connected.
The temperature is very warm to touch.
I dont know what temp but its not hot. Its just very very warm and almost hot.
- I dont know is there a way to check temp in router? I use baby temp thermometer and it shows 108 F
- does exhaust fan or cooling fan needed? I know it is design to operate in certain temp.
- if you use fan, what kind and suggestion?
- can you adjust fan speed in router?

Please see pics how my router is position.

Try browsing to the router webUI sub page /ajax_coretmp.asp to confirm CPU temp <86C (85% Tj max).

Also, I would move the router away from loudspeakers/magnets to be sure the router electronics and WiFi/radios are not affected.

If the new router runs noticeably hot, I'd return it.

Login to the router webUI and browse to (assumes router webUI access is not set to use HTTPS):

http://www.asusrouter.com/ajax_coretmp.asp

To see a simple report like this:

fanctrl_info = ; curr_cpuTemp = "70.420"; curr_rxData = fanctrl_info[3]; curr_coreTmp_2 = fanctrl_info[1]; curr_coreTmp_5 = fanctrl_info[2];

This is how the link shows.
Please help

The image you posted is too small to read. Does it list curr_cpuTemp = "??.???"

fanctrl_info = ; curr_cpuTemp = "0.057"; curr_rxData = fanctrl_info[3]; curr_coreTmp_2 = fanctrl_info[1]; curr_coreTmp_5 = fanctrl_info[2];

The page cannot be opened. Its error and show code as above

That is the page! The output string curr_cpuTemp = "0.057" suggests something is not right... a running CPU of a very hot router should have more temperature than 0.057C.

o Move the router away from the loadspeakers;
o Install current firmware and then Hard Reset that firmware;
o Configure the router minimally from scratch and then check the temp again.

If the router continues to run very hot and the temp reported is not normal and not less than 85C, then return it or call ASUS Support for an RMA.

For reference:
FW Reset FAQ
Reset button/webUI Restore/node removal clears settings in NVRAM; reboot restores fw defaults from CFE
Hard Reset via WPS button/webUI Restore+Initialize also clears data logged in /jffs partition

I will try reset the router. Thank you so much.

No. Your router was made to work as expected up to 40C ambient temperature. If it doesn’t- send it back.

Also, noticed router siting on top of speaker with multiple coils. Just a theory, but you could have electromagnetic field effects on the router/antennas. i would get the router at least 1 m away from any speaker or motor device.

You can also install the firmware by ASUS Merlin. He writes excellent firmware for ASUS’s routers, providing updates to various components, security updates, and lots of extra features.

One of those features is System Info. After installing the firmware, click on System Info on the left and you’ll see a ton of useful info, including the temperature for your router’s CPU and WiFi radios and how much memory is being used. Great for troubleshooting.

Finally just had a chance to try the new firmware.
I can see the router operating temp now. I dont know if its ideal but may be its ok.

Wow, CPU is at 38C. Do you have that in a refrigerator? My CPU in a RT-BE92U is at 60C and before when I had an ET8, it's CPU was at 60C also.

No. Refrigerator way too big. I put it in mini fridge. Lol.
May be i dont have as many devices as yours?
But before my temp was very high. Very very to touch, but after I put the exhaust fan, the temp significantly reduced and very very cool.
