merlin, openwrt, & fq_codel

Hey guys, I've been away from the forum for ages! I need a new router for pretty standard use but with some emphasis towards QoS. How would an Archer c7 (openwrt) compare with an AC68U (Merlin) in regards to fq_codel? Last time I checked, adaptive QoS on the Asus disables HW acceleration?

Both are around the same price used, just looking to get the right model for traffic shaping. Any advice around these models or something in the same range is greatly appreciated.

Adaptive QoS only disables the second level of HW acceleration, first level remains accessible.

Note that with OpenWRT, you probably won't have any HW acceleration at all (except possibly on a few select Qualcomm devices, but I don't think OpenWRT fully supports any of these).
