Strongly second the suggestion of @bennor , run the test from a wired computer. i don't put much faith in the built-in router speed test, it has been shown to be unreliable, especially for testing at greater than about 500mbps WAN connection speed.

I'll give that a shot. It probably will do better with the speeds.

I never had issues with aiprotect being on. Are you saying this tool isn't necessary?

Try turning it off and see if your speed gets better.

It is not that the AiProtect feature is unnecessary, it is that as a troubleshooting step one should disable it AND withdraw from it in the Administration > Policy page (click the Withdraw button). Then run a speed test to see if that feature was interfering with the results. Because the router GUI built in speed test program sometimes doesn't report correct values it is best to run the internet speed test from a computer wired directly to the router.

So here's what happened:
I connected my laptop to my router first to test the speeds with none of the changes and I was able to get my 1Gb DL/UL speeds. The speedtest in the router as we all know calculates the speeds from the WAN from the modem so it seems any device connected via LAN to my router will get the 1Gb speed and if I connect to one of LAN ports on my modem I still get 1Gb. I did do some testing with disabling AI Protection and withdrawing from the policies but it did very little difference. My guess is Skynet is the one causing the speed drops between the router and modem but not from any of the LAN ports on the router.

Not sure that is true for the more powerful ASUS routers. My AX88Pro has no problem testing and showing my 2200/300 speed either using the speed test under QOS or using spdMerlin.

I may in the future get the AX11000 since it's more friendly with online gaming at least from what I researched but maybe the pros say otherwise.

If you are willing to put some money down, I'd recommend saving a little longer and getting the GT-BE98 Pro or the GT-AXE16000. Right now there is a lot in the air on Asus future plans, but save your money and keep your eye on @RMerlin 's development.

I don't use it. One of the first things I ensure is disabled when I configure a new router.
