Name resolution

New Around Here
Replaced a Belkin F5D8235-4 v1 with the RT-N66U but the Boxee Box and DNS-323 NAS do not recognize my computers (or each other) by name anymore. \\Computer does not work while \\IP does. The DNS error message, for example, is "Please verify the URL,DNS settings, and your account settings."

Is there something that the F5D was doing that the RT does not? No WINS server in my network, no WINS settings in F5D that I was aware of.

Thank you for taking your time to clarify this.

It is likely that the IP assignment for your devices has changed with the new router. Name resolution was probably handled by NETBIOS, or hosts file (if you set one up). What happens when you attempt to ping by hostname? If the wrong IP is resolved, caching or hosts file is suspect. If nothing is resolved, you should troubleshoot network discovery.

The exact same names have the same ip addresses like before.
All the PCs/laptops are fine - they can see each other and the NAS by name.
But when trying to access shares using names from the NAS and BBox interfaces doesn't work. Replacing the names with IP addresses works. I would just like to use computer names like before changing the router instead of IP addresses.

How was the Belkin router able to get a computer name from the NAS or Boxee and translate it into IP address? Why doesn't RT-N66U do the same?
