Only Buy Routers Released In The Past One or Two Years?

I installed Fresh Tomato on an Asus RT-AC88U router that I am going to use that until I replace it with the newer RT-AX86 that Tech 9 recommended. The AC88U was my primary router, but last week it was having a WAN port issue - the Spectrum modem was online, but the WAN9 indicator on the AC88U would not "see" it and its indicator displayed red. Factory resetting the router and installing Asus Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.386_48313 - 2024/11/13 did not fix the problem. Fresh Tomato, with a modified date of 11/26/24, seems to have resolved the problem. I was glad to have the AC88U back online, because as a stop-gap, I was using an TP-Link Archer A9 v6 router, and the firmware for that unit was last updated 3.5 years ago.
