RT-BE96U AFC?

Now that the BE19000AI has AFC support, is there any insight as to if/when we might see it for the BE96U?

Are there any limitations as to the channels and/or channel width on the 6GHz band when activating AFC?

RT-BE96U lacks hardware capabilities for AFC.

The only two models with AFC support as per ASUS are GS-BE18000 and GT-BE19000AI:

For AFC the device has to have GPS receiver. @RMerlin may know if RT-BE96U has one. If it doesn't - no AFC.
According to the Asus FAQ, it shows
Location Permissions: Just make sure your phone is connected to the router’s Wi-Fi, and you’ve allowed the app to access your location. The AFC system uses this information to determine the router's location.
Which says it gets the router location from a device connected to wifi on the router.
Which would imply the router doesn't need GPS for AFC. Since it would get the location information from a device connected to the router by WiFi.

In theory GPS module is mandatory, internal or external, but relying on a client for precise geolocation is rather strange solution making reliability equation more complex. A client running ASUS App must be present every 24h and automatic location services must be allowed on this client in background so the router can eventually update the location... otherwise no AFC. And this phone doesn't even need 6GHz connectivity. 🧐

The router's pressure sensor is used to determine the altitude of where your router is located.

But, wouldn't the geo location info also give you that? The information is there from topographical maps. As long as you know your location, then the altitude would be known. At least within so many feet. Depending on the level it was on in a structure.

The map won't determine if your router is in your basement, or on the top floor of a 40-floor building.

Read Asus's FAQ, it explains how AFC works.

The wireless router must report its geographic coordinates, antenna height, serial number, and other required information, which must be complete and updated.

Actually the GPS on the Phone does give elevation 🤷🏻‍♂️
The phone in your pocket might not be at the same height as the router on the shelf. As the FAQ that I just quoted says, it needs the antennas' height.

Hi @RMerlin do you know if the GT-BE98 Pro also lack the hardware to support AFC?
A V2 hardrware revision was supposed to add the pressure sensor. No idea if it happened or if the plan was ditched.

The two BE96U routers I bought last week were still hardware version 1.0.
