According to the Asus FAQ, it showsThe only two models with AFC support as per ASUS are GS-BE18000 and GT-BE19000AI:
For AFC the device has to have GPS receiver. @RMerlin may know if RT-BE96U has one. If it doesn't - no AFC.
Which says it gets the router location from a device connected to wifi on the router.Location Permissions: Just make sure your phone is connected to the router’s Wi-Fi, and you’ve allowed the app to access your location. The AFC system uses this information to determine the router's location.

But, wouldn't the geo location info also give you that? The information is there from topographical maps. As long as you know your location, then the altitude would be known. At least within so many feet. Depending on the level it was on in a structure.The router's pressure sensor is used to determine the altitude of where your router is located.
That page is where I got the info I posted. Under "Location Permissions".You might want to read this FAQ first;
[Wireless Router] What is AFC? How to enable AFC? - (United States Only)
Then down to "Why AFC is not functioning properly?" for more detail, and the one below that "Why can't my device connect to the AFC router?"
The map won't determine if your router is in your basement, or on the top floor of a 40-floor building.But, wouldn't the geo location info also give you that? The wireless router must report its geographic coordinates, antenna height, serial number, and other required information, which must be complete and updated.

Read Asus's FAQ, it explains how AFC works.
The phone in your pocket might not be at the same height as the router on the shelf. As the FAQ that I just quoted says, it needs the antennas' height.Actually the GPS on the Phone does give elevation![]()
Hi @RMerlin do you know if the GT-BE98 Pro also lack the hardware to support AFC?RT-BE96U lacks hardware capabilities for AFC.
A V2 hardrware revision was supposed to add the pressure sensor. No idea if it happened or if the plan was ditched.Hi @RMerlin do you know if the GT-BE98 Pro also lack the hardware to support AFC?
The two BE96U routers I bought last week were still hardware version 1.0.A V2 hardrware revision was supposed to add the pressure sensor. No idea if it happened or if the plan was ditched.
He asked about the RT-BE98_Pro, not the RT-BE96U.The two BE96U routers I bought last week were still hardware version 1.0.
