RT-BE96u and older firmware downgrade

Jessop

New Around Here
I assume this has been discussed i promise i did try to search for the answer many ways LOL; but with ASUS blocking older firmware on the download site as well as blocking non-approved firmware from being installed, is there another way to install merlin?

What I've done so far is did the following:

• tried multiple times to install via the GUI
• Connected via ssh and ran these commands
nvram set DOWNGRADE_CHECK_PASS=1
nvram commit
• Reset to factory defaults multiple times as well as before and after committing the nvram settings

This brand new router is set to firmware: 3.0.0.6.102_37031 in case it helps any. I'm just looking for some steps / recommendations, or anything that can help me downgrade. I am upgrading from an RT-AC68P and i would love to just export the settings and import the settings after I get Merlin installed and not have to rebuild my entire mesh that consists of two other AC68p's in mesh mode on my property.

Now, I am also wondering if there isn't a Merlin that will work with this new router from Asus yet. I assume they are blocking everything due to all the Sev1 vulnerabilities that was found on older firmware recently, so they are protecting themselves to ensure they don't allow downgrading but thats just an assumption on my part and i obviously could be totally off base.

Thanks for any help or suggestions or recommendations if there is something i can do. If i just need to wait for a new way to install Merlin i can wait. Obviously if need be i could go back to asus's branded firmware and reconfigure my entire mesh. Though to be honest I'd rather merlin firmware as i've been running it for about 8 years and its just more intuitive LOL.
