I have a modem from my ISP and a subsription that gives me 250 Mbps down and 15 Mbps up.
When I connect my laptop directly to the modem and go to speedtest.net, I get these speeds. I connect my Linksys WRT 1900 ACS router to the modem and then the laptop to the router and immediately get a major slowdown. My speeds are now 0.25 Mbps down and 2.5 Mbps up. Both are cut significantly, but the download is cut much more.
I bought the Linksys WRT 1900 ACS because the processor, 512k Ram and signal strength were reportedly the best out there. The router should be able to handle 15-20 devices connected via switches and wifi signal. However, it is not.
When I do a factory reset and then connect, the router performs fine. When I configure the wifi name / pass, the OpenDNS settings and stuff, the router continues to perform but after a day it slows down. Turning off and turning on again does not resolve the issue.
Vlan is turned off as well as SPI Firewall protection. Does anyone have advice on what could be the issue? Is it the router, the firmware, a setting somewhere or what do you suggest?
Should I use the cable modem as the DNS router and just use my Linksys as an access point?
