So I have an Asus RT-N16 with Merlin's. I have a 500 GB drive attached via usb. I have all my movies on it. Every movie i play will play for maybe 3 minutes then freeze. Then the audio will start but the video still is frozen. Its kind of like when a drive in your PC spins down then you hit play. But I have drive spin down disabled on the router. What could be causing the poor quality of playback?

Curious what you are getting for upload/download rates from your pc to the drive? Also, whats your connected link speed between your PC / Router? And what version is the firmware you are running?

Also to help you identify the problem are you using WiFi to stream the video?

My desktop is in the living room, router in office. So WiFi for now, and network center says I'm connected around 57 mbps

What kind of quality are you trying to stream? That router really is not a powerhouse. For a test, try and stream something with crap quality and low resolution and see if it works.

RT-AC66U Firmware:3.0.0.4.374.38_2 (Merlin build)

i have AC66U connect to USB 2TB HDD.

my movies are mostly at least 2GB in size full hd.

i can play from my bedroom via 200mb homeplug.

i can play even from wifi on G and N without issue.
