I just noticed that on my RT86U 384.15. On the main web page where it show WAN IP its 192.168.x.x.
It was a long time but I do recall it was showing actual WAN IP - external IP. It baffles me what is causing it.
I tried disable DDNS and Unbound with no effect. Is anyone else experiencing that ?

Do you have a ‘modem’ in front of it?
If so that is not being just a modem, it is being a router too.
Ideally you need to switch the modem to bridge mode.

Sounds like you have a double NAT scenario. I have this problem too, as my current ISP router does not support a bridge mode.

It only really causes problems with DDNS services, but hopefully, you can with your model to bridge.

I actually don't have any problems with DDNS or Unbound or vpn clients. Double NAT or not I think it still should be able to show a real WAN IP.
If you run echo curl -fs4 https://myip.dnsomatic.com/) from your router you will get real WAN IP. Its not a problem for me but I think during the service-start or nat-start this value should be set properly. It makes me wonder if this is happening because I reset nvram values dns_probe_host and dns_probe_content.

It is showing the real WAN IP. That is the IP address of the router's WAN interface regardless of whether there is double NAT or not. That is not the same as your public IP address as seen from the internet. As you say, DDNS can work around double NAT but that doesn't change what the GUI is displaying.

You made a good point and you are correct.

The only place I see WAN IP mentioned on the home page is here, and it shows my real public IP...

Where are you seeing the private one?

I’m using PPP so the red masked part is the ppp0 IP and the self assigned below is the eth0 IP (as expected as there is no DHCP response etc).

My point is, if you are not seeing a public IP there you are definitely doing double NAT.
