What are your thoughts on the new AI router GT-BE19000AI?

Don't get me wrong, I also agree that the pricing is getting out of hands. My top-of-the-line RT-N66U back in 2012 cost me a bit under $200 CAD. The RT-AC68U pushed things to $250 CAD. Now, we are reaching $900 CAD, and this new router will break the $1000 CAD barrier. That's the price of a whole mid-range laptop. I can only think that if every year Asus can release a new router at a higher price than last year's flagship, the sales data must indicate that they do have a market of buyers for these products. I recall seeing people posting here who had bought a pair of GT-AXE16000 or GT-BE98_PRO to run in a mesh setup.

I don't mind so much as long they still offer more affordable alternatives at the other end of the spectrum. But these "entry-level" routers are still at the cost of that original flagship RT-N66U from 2011. Inflation isn't the only explanation for this.

My point is, personally I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a router. But if someone does, I'm not going to start insulting them for doing so, as I understand what they are looking for in that purchase. We live in a world where people are also spending $3000 on a gaming GPU that they will most likely replace within the next 5 years.

Well said - people are not being forced to buy it, and nobody needs to justify their reasons for doing so...

(however, getting the partner approval could be a challenge I suppose)

Just got mine today from BB and as expected, this router is not yet ready for prime time. $900+ and has a bunch of flaws, not to mention the gui is now white and different than the previous ROG layout. Took me a minute to get used to it.

When AiProtection is enabled, my wireless speeds are severely degraded. Also when MLO is enabled, my iOS devices keep disconnecting or refusing to connect to WiFi.

Had to disable AiProtection as a result. Hopefully this is not a huge security concern for now.

FYI both of these issues were not present on my previous BE96U and BE98 Pro models.

Also other various bugs that need to be addressed via a firmware upgrade.

I opened up a support ticket to report these issues.
Thanks for saving me the money. I had a boatload of points saved up from my BB CC but may get an 8K tv or new gaming laptop instead

just pick up BE98 Pro for 415 but wanted buy AI one but was 1000 .... i
If AI has any use case that I need I might get it, but I already get 30ms pings to the games I play without using wtfast or anything other than whatever the BE98 Pro enables out of the box and using a 2.5Gbps port for my laptop and 10Gbps WAN port for my 2.5Gbps internet.

What are they saying AI is supposed to do beyond packet prioritization and similar things? Given HTTPS, I can't even see it preloading web pages to cache like I used to use squid for back in the day on Linux.

BTW, there is a new firmware available for update: 3.0.0.6.102_40156-g5280304_1477-g5c69f_BB0B
Its not yet listed in the website, but it was visible from the router firmware update page which I got it updated to.

AI is pointless in about 95% of cases right now - the same marketing hype as blockchain in 2017, probably even worse.
I did see this router in action at a friends house recently and the "AI" Balance option under Adaptive QoE seem to be working pretty well. I know for some, bufferbloat test are useless but this thing kept giving an A+ rating when testing. His speeds are not even that fast neither (75/10Mbps) so he's happy.

The firmware was up later yesterday but makes no mention of AFC... Sigh....

No AFC but MLO is now working properly. Also issues with AiProtection is still not fixed (slow wireless speeds when enabled). Also no way to keep aura lights disabled (turns back on after a minute of disabling).

Isn't it possible to get the same A+ grade under similar conditions using the "classic" Adaptive QoS on Wi-Fi 6 routers? Not saying Adaptive QoE is bad or anything, just a bit skeptical that AI is really needed for this.

I never used stock firmware so it's hard to say how it works with Adaptive QoS but i do know web traffic doesnt work well in stock. Even the new GT-BE98 Pro has broken QoS in stock fw.

I know with asuswrt-merlin fw & using FlexQoS you can get an A rating and it fixes traffic flow (with FlexQoS install, the script separates web traffic from Net Control and Untracked from Work-From-Home & maybe the reason you can get an A rating) .

Simple Bandwidth Limiter is usually enough since sites testing bufferbloat actually create bufferbloat saturating the ISP line. You need AI though to justify few hundred dollars premium in price. Someone may ask.

If someone can measure with a smart plug the watt measurements it will be interesting.
It gets fairly hot about to 60 degrees C.
Power averaging to 28W and peak upto 38W.

Yes, I have 7gbps up/down fios link which works fine without AI protection OR the DNS-over-TLS enabled.
with both enabled, fios goes down to 4gbps.
On the wireless side without enabling these, I get 2.2gbps on my Samsung Ultra24 and 1.8gbps on my iPhone 17 pro max.
With both AI protection and DoT enabled the wireless speeds crawl at 650mbps, capped less than 700mbps peak.
For now I have disabled them and thinking of adding vlans to control.
I’m planning to keep it 😀

This guide might help.
Yes, this I have already enabled and using it. I do have adguard account too. But this is not causing any slow down. Only the AI protection which I have it disabled in the attached snapshot. This was working just fine in my older BE98Pro.
