New Around Here
Hi....though not a total pc dummy in general, I come close in regard to networking, adaptors, etc thus finding myself stumped by an issue that's probably quite basic, probably dealt with repeatedly elsewhere...but I haven't found it over many hours of looking so.....

General info, might it be of use.

Dell Precision Workstation T1650/i7-3770/3.4GHz running Windows 7 Pro/64.

Installed Asus PCE-AC55BT Wireless/Bluetooth adaptor.

Connecting to a Vodafone AC router & their best Fibre Broadband available in my area....70 something mbps paid for, 20 max achieved.

Card installed fine, Bluetooth works fine & internet performance is fine....fine in that the card apparently does a job exactly as my cheap 8yr old Windows 7/Pro64 laptop does sitting right next to it...no better, no worse.

'Cept my old laptop will connect to the router & give internet access within 2/3 seconds of my desktop icons appearing on start-up....the Asus card spins that wee blue symbol in the tray for a full 4/5 minutes before eventually connecting.

Spent weeks now, blindly attempting suggested this & that's, not knowing if I'm doing more harm than good, things the half of which I can't even now remember....but I still remain exactly where I started.

Tried Asus & Intel Drivers...delved into unknown worlds to me, adjusting settings for both card and router...every possible configuration by now but nothing I do effects the problem, or indeed my connection in general, which is always more than good enough for my needs.

The following is probably irrelevant but from my point of ignorance these things are confusing me all the more.

The Asus Media/Setup disc wouldn't run in the workstation's drive but would on the old laptop. I therefore copied the disc files onto a usb stick & installed the card from that stick. All went without a hitch but can that method have hitches? I ask because I'm used to seeing a new something or other after installing hardware...a control panel perhaps, or ASUS for instance appearing in my start menu at least. Here I wouldn't know that the card was even installed if it weren't for 1) Having wifi/Bluetooth.. & 2) Having an Intel network adaptor appear in my device manager.

In sales hype & reviews the antenna was much applauded, it being possible to position it for max reception....I can connect mine, position it here, there & everywhere, or disconnect it & bury it under my bed....it makes not the slightest of difference. Does this simply mean that the signal between router & card is so good that no antenna is even needed?

Having now split the SSID's on my router, set the 5G to 802.11ac, set the card's wireless mode likewise....why does my connection to this 5G show a radio mode of 802.11n?

These things aside, any assistance it not having to turn my pc on & then have to go make a fish finger sandwich before getting to read my one email of the day from `Porn4U dot com` would really be very much appreciated!

Thanks/Gill
