    [Release 384/NG] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.5 is now available

Would be nice if you included the router model that you were experiencing problems with.

    [Release 384/NG] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.5 is now available

Thanks for the info. I figured that all that was needed was to restart the httpd service, just did not know the command. Now I do. ;)

    [Release 384/NG] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.5 is now available

After 21 days of up time the UI is unresponsive on my RT-AC86U. When I try to browse to router's IP address, 192.168.1.1 the browser just hangs with the spinning indicator and never connects. A reboot corrects of course. Nothing in the logs when I ssh'ed into the router and looked. Router was...

384.5 doesn't support guest network hide SSID?

Hiding SSID really does not provide any security and can cause Windows PC connection problems. For everything you wanted to know, but were afraid to ask about hiding the SSID read this: https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/28653/debunking-myths-is-hiding-your-wireless-ssid-really-more-secure/

    [Release 384/NG] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.5 is now available

I tend not to worry too much about temps. Folks worry about shortening the life of the router. I figure if it fails after 2 or 3 years because of temperature, there is going to be a newer, better, faster router that I am wanting an excuse to buy anyway. CPU temp on my rt86u is about 73 degrees...

    Add emoji support in SSID?

Ah yes. I can see the next issue. Friend over to house and could not connect to my network. @ColinTaylor I agree and could not have said it better. --bill

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.55 is now available

I have a Chromecast and have never experienced any wireless issues. Sounds like it maybe in your case. Weird that the CC would cause wireless issues when it wakes up to talk to the Mothership. Know it does this to check for things like updates. It should act like any other wireless device I...

    Requesting a change of leadership

Agree. No one is forcing him to use this firmware. Don't like don't use. Seems simple to me. Personally I think this firmware is the best available. Don't really see what the big deal is with the login screen. I use this firmware so that I do not need to login all the time. Load firmware...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.55 is now available

Yup! Gave up on using router as DLNA server. Have a Buffalo NAS that I use as DLNA server, much better solution, just works, as well as a backup solution. Routers are meant to route in my opinion and if something not router related does not work, like DLNA oh well. I look at things like DLNA...

Keep in mind that RMerlin does this in his spare time. It is a "hobby" with him and not something he is doing in any kind of a time frame. When it is done is when it is done. Very tiresome to him to have the same when will the next release be ready question. --bill

a What your real question is what are valid DNS names. as DHCP names follow the same design. What characters, etc. Here is a link that gives the info I what I think is a easy to understand form. Can find lots of other info in Internet. Google is your friend...

If you have a name "Justin ipad" without the quotes of course that is invalid. Spaces are not allowed. You could do Justin-ipad if you wanted. --bill

I see no reason to have STP enabled on a home network. Few folks are going to have switches interconnected with multiple paths. Quote from Cisco that nets what STP is I think: Spanning-Tree Protocol (STP) prevents loops from being formed when switches or bridges are interconnected via...
