[ac68u] : download manager defects

Sometime this happens:

i might be having say 5-7 downloads in progress.. need router restart.. i go back to download manager page to see if all is well, and nothing.. all the in progress downloads are lost.. and it shows below:

ScreenHunter_07 Dec. 25 18.46.jpg

duh... all the downloads are lost..

considering many defects in these kind of premium routers i am losing my faith from asus programmers if they are skilled enough to handle even such basic mundane use cases? no its not about being on beta.. when was this not a beta otherwise.. such elements never worked well as far as i see RT-AC68U :(

I have the -66 model, and download master does not work properly at all. I have been in contact with ASUS support on the matter, but they just gave me some stupid answers. They couldnt fix the problem for me.

I have to wait for a firmware update and hope that solves the problem.

What version firmware and what software version of Download Master are you using? Download Master works perfectly for me on RT-AC66U. 354.979 firmware and 3.1.0.84 version of Download Master.

Also, there is a software update for Download Master, 3.1.0.85. I have just installed 3.1.0.85 and it works fine as well.

I am not sure what firmware I have on Download Master, but the firmware for the router itself is the same as yours.

I am not home at the moment, so I can not say what firmware I have on Download Master, but I dont even now how to update it.

There is no firmware for download master. Download Master is software. When you get home, log in to your router, go to USB Application. You will see at the bottom of the list: Download Master, it shows you the version you are using, and you should see a notification that an update is available. All you have to do is click on the update and the rest will be done automatically.

I will check when I have the opportunity again, but I have not seen any available updates under USB-applications.

I think I have the latest firmware. The problem is that it does not seed after downloading. And that the downloading speed is horrible.

Check and see what version you are using. I just noticed the Dowload Master .85 update today. Your problem is not Download Master. My download speeds with Download Master are the same as when I use utorrent, and I'm not doing anything special.

Well, I have tried to download files first with uTorrent, and then with DM.
The speed is dramatically decreased with DM. Dramatically.

I will try the update and see if that fixes my issues, thanks for helping. :)

I have noticed in the past that I could not always tell if the torrents were seeding. I never really paid much attention because I didn't really care too much if they were seeding. But I just got home and checked and with the latest version (.85) of Download Master, I see 2 torrents seeding at the speed I specified. So it seems to be improved.

aMule also appears to be permanently disabled, or at least set to Disconnected by default, which is a huge improvement.

Download master is a proprietary and stale version of Transmission that's overdue for an update. Better off using entware on the 66, but the 68... Your sol untill Asus fixes and updates it. Also something merlin isn't able to compile or touch. Right now the priority seems to be connectivity, stability, and wireless reliability. Email Asus if it's an issue

The Optware repo used by the AC56/AC68 comes with Transmission 2.82, which is also the latest version. The MIPS routers are the ones using an obsolete Optware repo - in these cases you'll want Entware.

I am new to Optware Entware understanding.. does above mean I can upgrade download manager of AC68U to a better one? if so I would wish to try that.. any steps of how to do that?

Ideally you might want to switch to a custom firmware, as Entware support is limited with the stock firmware.

Check on these forums, there are guides explaining how to install Transmission through Optware or Entware.

Keep in mind that Transmission itself doesn't have the proprietary web interface that Asus has designed for Download Master.
