AC86U+R7800 as AP

I would like to add an AP to my house to extend the coverage, and I notice the R7800 support 802.11k which will help devices to roam between APs, just wonder if anyone knows that does 802.11k required both AP to support it or just either of it? Since netgear offer some WiFi extender with 802.11k and advertised to work with any router in the market for roaming as mesh do. Thanks ya

Btw my devices are iPad Pro 10.5 and iPhone XS Max, P20 Pro, Note 8, all of them are 802.11k supported, so the client side are ready for it
