New Around Here
Hi Guys,
I encountered some issue and need help. I flash the router with merlin firmware and getting very slow performance. I run speedtest with merlin firmware, I can get less than 100Mbps. If I flash back the stock firmware, I can get 297Mbps in speedtest which is my subscribe internet speed. What could be the problem ?

Secondly, I like to know how to configure the wifi guest network isolate from LAN network when setup RT-88U as access point ? I am doing this because I have EdgeRouter setup as primary router and using RT-88U as access point.

Any help is appreciate.

You can't. The AP has no control over traffic going through the router.

Did you do a factory reset after flashing Merlin FW from stock? It is best practice to do so.

Did you do the speed test over ethernet or WiFi? Could be some wifi settings were replaced with default values which slowed down your connection. Look into using the nvram backup and restore utility to save your settings with stock firmware. Then flash with Merlin and restore settings https://www.snbforums.com/threads/user-nvram-save-restore-utility-r24a.19521/

Or, take screen pics of existing settings and reenter settings manually.

Any work around to get it work through command line ? Such as WRT support wifi VLAN tagging ? If WIFI Vlan tagging supported, then it is easily to achieve it.

I reset router many times and problem remain. End up flash back the stock firmware to gain back the speed.

Solve that first - 100Mbps - sounds like 2.4GHz connection... and a decent one at that for a 2-stream 11n client.

the 297Mbps - maybe 5Ghz - which depending on range from the AP, it's not that bad - with WiFi, everything is about location...

Speedtest.net is not very reliable for testing WLAN performance in any event.

Anyways - not seeing a problem here with provided information...

It's not just the AP, it's the client, and the client is actually the big part of performance here...
