I have installed _3754 firmware upgrade and my setup with R87 main and R87 Access point are now stable. Up until this update, the main would crash on my network. This does not appear to be related to the VLAN 1 message issue as I'm still getting those.

Correction, my main R87 is still being brought down 1 to 2 times per day.

Anyone having issues with Plex Media Server or VPN? Issue seems to be with UPNP??

Cannot connect to Plex Media Server "externally." I simply cannot connect to my WAN IP. I've tried port forwarding as well. Anyone else having this problem or have any advice? The computer that is running the Plex Media server also has Static IP.

Also I am having struggles with connecting to VPN PPTP when enabled. Followed directions correctly but computer cannot connect to WAN IP as well. I am using the latest firmware 3754.

I figure these two problems are related with UPNP?

This is my system log...

Also my system log is flooded with this.. I assume its me trying to connect multiple times.

I'm having issues with UPnP as well, my Qnap doesnt detect it enabled on the router despite it being enabled anymore. No issue like this before updating to the latest firmware. Disabling and re-enabling UPnP allowed my nas to pick it up but its still causing issues.

Correction, my main R87 is still being brought down 1 to 2 times per day.

I removed the 2nd RT-AC87 from the network to eliminate it from the equation. Seems to have solved the vlan issue, but now I see my main router's processors spiking up/down 0-40% with an alarming high RAM utilization >70%.

This router should never have graduated from beta status.

This router should never have graduated from beta status.

!!!!I second this statement!!!!

I just hope it is not a hardware problem also (I am starting to think it is), we all are running out of time for asus warranty.

every day I have to reboot this router for all kinds of problems and have now shut all devices down from the 5GHz.

Problems for me
1. PS4 lag (reboot of the router before use required, every day to correct)
2. streaming issues (disable nat acceleration, should be default to disable)
3. USB loss = hard drive sometimes just disconnects (this is new with the latest)
4. from wifi app to hard wired device control, massive lag connecting at first, still present on 2.4GHz but no way near as bad as 5GHz.

Hi everyone,

I am mainly having these two issues and I see some other members mentioned them. Does anyone have any updates on these, or know if Asus is aware and working on them? I apologize if I missed it but I tried finding answers :)

1- The 5GHz network drops the internet connection for all my devices (have several iPhones and iPads connected. The wi-fi connection stays on but it randomly loses internet for 20-30 seconds and comes back. Or disabling and enabling wi-fi on Apple devices does the trick..

2- That annoying "kernel: br0: received packet on vlan1 with own address as source address" message.

PS. One thing that got fixed with the newest firmware 3754 is the macbook pro connection issues. It works way more stable now. Still same issues as above though.

Thanks!

Looks like the latest driver has seemed to fix the issues that I had with the router. My 5ghz band now seems to run stable and at full speed.

I do wish this firmware was released when the router first shipped, but hey at least things are stable now :)

Same problem here with all my iOS devices. One of my friend also has a note 2 and exactly the same thing happens that you mentioned in point 1 with the 87u. Have perfect connection but can't seem to surf the net or check email, etc. happens at least twice a day on each device on the 5ghz band using the latest firmware with the updated driver (3754).

Add me to the list and I have to go to airplane mode to fix it. Happens to me on every build for this router so far.

Like to say I have the same issues with my ac87. On my wife's S5 or my note 3, the 5ghz band also seems to stop responding periodically and it can only be fixed by disconnecting and reconnecting. The 2.4 band is more stable, but it would be nice to use the 5ghz and be reliable.

I tried the newest firmware and Merlin's firmware, no change in this department.

It's the opposite for me - with firmware 3754, my Macbook Pro has no internet access when it wakes up even though it is connected to the 5ghz wifi while my iPhone and iPad get internet instantly without the need to toggle wifi on and off.

I am starting to think that many of these issues may actually be hardware related. Maybe there are quite a number of these units that have had poor QA and perhaps have cold solder joints or some other manufacturing anomaly causing the 5GHz issues. I am still on firmware 2061 and have never had any 5GHz issues. If the problems posted by many on here are in fact due to faulty manufacturing then no firmware can ever fix the problems.

Bought same router, want to give input

Hallo all,

I just want to share my experience with this router. I use it with my lan with about 25 clients. It was running the previous firmware and since yesterday running the 3.0.0.4.378_3754 version. I use only static ip's. DHCP server is on, but only with a range of two ip's. These two ip's are used for my Sonos system. And, I manually Assigned IP's around the DHCP list. Further I use the Macfilters, and put in the list of mac addresses of my devices.

I have with both versions no problem with disconnecting devices. My iPad Air 2 is the only one running on the 5GHz band and is not disconnecting.

The problems I have is, that I can not hide the SSID broadcast. Some wifi devices are disconnected (Samsung S5, iPad Air2, Samsung tablet, etc.) and are out of range. With my previous router, this was never a problem. This must be possible is it not?

I also have the: kernel: br0: received packet on vlan1 with own address as source address every day several times. List is very long after a few days. Very annoying problem.

With Macfiltering on, my Foscam camera is disconnected after a few minutes. If I switch it of it connects again. (mac in list is correct!). This could be a Foscam problem.

Overall I am happy with the new router, but I am a little bit disappointed with the bugs in this expensive router!

To you both above

This router is a total disaster at this point in time . PERIOD

your camera is getting disconnected because either
1. the firmware has now hit an all time low
2. we all have faulty hardware (just by design)

all previous firmware was better and the older the better.

I have installed every firmware that came out and 2-3 months ago it was at its best, now it is just a disaster!

All I hope for is the next one,
1.. it is stable
2.. no lag on ps4 (now I have to reboot it once or twice a day, the router that is)
3.. no more vlan, same ip, BS that we have had since day one.

it seems the other manufacturer has good firmware (as stated by others, somewhere) for theirs and Asus ??????
you fill in the blank.

As for me I stopped using 5GHz and am just about to stop using this POS (until proven otherwise) and I used to praise this router, I also talked my brother into one way back (he is still on the original firmware TG). they complain about this POS to me from time to time.

EDIT: one more thing for Asus

STOP ENABLING "nat Acceleration" or just abandon it all togethter !!!!!!!!! with this enabled it causes all havak, one being stuttering in usb movie playback!!!

Have you checked the logs? Perhaps the WAN connection is going down.

Running latest firmware from this thread for my 87R and installed the day it came out and did two factory resets on New Year's Day and as of today experiencing intermittent issues all day for the first time.. I have charter (DHCP is normal not aggressive) and contacted charter twice where each time they confirmed no issues with Modem or neighborhood regarding speed. I have two iMac's hard wired one is used for work and seen in my logs an unholy amount of miniupnpd closed Unexpectantly (I shutdown my non work computer and cleared logs without thinking so don't have full transcript) issues. Most of the issue in the logs were resulting from the non work iMac but also a few from the work iMac.

Will edit post when I see the error again.

Issue just happened today for over three hours as of 325 est where on my 60download connection I've seen:ping as high as 4,000MS and a DL speed of .029 it's progressively getting better after a restart of modem and router however still intermittent. Charter is convinced it's on my end and I disagreed until I seen my log firing off miniupnpd errors almost every two minutes or so.

This also affected two iPhone 6 Pluses, an iPad Air 2, and the two mentioned iMac's. I will also note about a week after latest beta came out I started experiencing the issue where 5ghz would stop and I'd have to throw my devices into airplane mode temporarily to fix but I've been dealing with that however the other issue is job impacting.

Here's the error that was spamming my logs like crazy:
Jan 11 15:16:27 miniupnpd[733]: HTTP Connection from 192.XXX.X.XXX closed unexpectedly

This is happening every 15 minutes on Work computer, non work computer is remaining offline until work shift is over.

All 192.XXX.X.XXX reflects the same IP above

One final note I have three routers total, the 87R, 68U running the just released ASUS firmware and N66U with latest Merlin Release.

87R is directly connected to my Modem and the 87R connects a wired bridge to my N66U and another wired bridge to my 68U.

The work computer is connected via cat6e to my Wired N66U which is cat6e wired to my 87R.

My 87R and 68U both share the same SSID's and WPA2 pass keys but each band is on a separate channel (87R's 2.4 is on different channel then my 68U's 2.4 band and etc..)

The reasons for my layout shouldn't matter as much as how they are laid out so being detailed and also wanted to note all cabling in my setup is utilizing cat6e cable.

Yup, just the vlan1 message and ntp update showing up like everyone else, no other information. Also each device goes down at a different time. In other words, the iPad will be connected but not able to go anywhere and at the same time the iPhone is fine and vice versa.
