Asuswrt-Merlin 374.42_2 is out

I will check if with latest Asus firmware the same problem happen. If not,
can you check the differences between yours and theirs regarding Time Machine? I can test every test you build to help you reach this problem.

Please let me know. The only change that was made related to Time Machine is how it was compiled, as Asus's method was very hackish (they were hardcoding changes in the configure script, which is a big no-no in a development environment). If it works with the stock firmware I'll play it safe and just revert back to Asus's hacked build files, just in case.

Laptop has Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235. Was working fine with 374.41 and previous versions.

Updated to 374.42 and upon reboot, the laptop would disconnect from the wireless network. I could reconnect manually with no problem, but upon reboot, it would disconnect again.

I tried updating and downgrading drivers, but nothing worked with 374.42. Continued disconnects upon laptop or router reboot. Downgraded back to 374.41..works perfectly.

There is something with 374.42 that causes disconnects upon reboot, at least with that wireless NIC.

Every router model uses a different wireless driver, so we'll need to know which router you are using before anyone can help you.

status lights in Web UI are not displaying

I just upgraded my RT-AC68U from 41 to 42. Everything is fully functional as far as accessing the internet with wired and wireless connections. However, the status lights in the upper/right corner (Wireless, Guest Network, Internet Status, etc) seem to have trouble updating and turning on. On the "Network Map" page the "Internet Status" reads "Detect connection again...". If I click around for a while, sometimes I can get the lights to turn on, and the internet status to display, but it isn't consistent. For example, right now, if I click on the "Administration" tab, my Wireless, Guest Network, and Internet Status lights all turn green. All the other tabs make the icons go back to being grayed out, including if I go back to the "Network Map" tab. Hitting Refresh in my browser has no impact. I haven't tried a factory reset yet, as others are using the connection at the moment, but I can try that later. I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts/ideas?

Update:
I did a factory reset, and then manually put all my settings back. The problem persists, but only when connected via wireless. When connected to the router with a wired connection, the status lights and internet status work properly.

I am on Comcast in the Denver area and IPv6 is working fine with .42. This is by far the best build yet for my purposes.

re-flashed .42 IPv6 working now. Oh that wacky Comcast.

a few things.

IPV6 people... its not so much the router, but with your provider. Reset your unit. Or power off your unit over night, and power on and power on your router.

if you have bad version message,(all versions of asus routers) try turning off your router, wait a minute, power back on, wait, go to your router and upgrade firmware with proper firmware file.

Client list - turn off all your computers, setup your router, reboot- power on each computer to receive a new proper dhcp assigned address. client list functions now. If you still have problems, set a new LAN scope, and new SSID names, try again.

If you are having other problems, the best is to sit back, maybe update the firmware again, set the router up fresh, see how it runs.

The wifi driver for the RT-N66U has been unchanged in the past three releases.

Redial Problem

I'm going with a USB stick (Huawei E398) on my AC68 to the Internet. In the .42 I have the problem that it is if the ISP connect to the Internet once a day disconnects no longer automatically dials again. I start the router it automatically dials up again. In .41 it worked great. Besides these, I have a message in the log what I did not have the .41.

Quite the same time also depends on the internet for 10-15 seconds.

Can that be related to this alert?

That could explain why TM isn't working properly.

Could this be applicable to the iTunes server not working, having recently tried,

Merlin .42->Asus 5517->Merlin .42->Asus 5517 (factory reset after each),

the iTunes server works with Asus but not with Merlin.

I am thinking in going back 2 versions.

374.42 is rocksolid to me (besides a little issue with parental control).
No reboots for me.

I had a similar problem when switching from version .39 to version .40. I run optware only for transmission and, to be able to use transmission with the stock firmware I put all the tweaks neaded to run transmission in the s95transmission script. When I switched firmware the firewall stopped working and the solution was to migrate those commands to firewall-start in jffs. Swap and some other tricks continued to work in the transmission script.

I don't know what you use optware for but migrating commands between jffs and the start scripts may help you.

Unlikely, as iTunes relies on mt-daapd, not on netatalk.

I have zero reboots with my own RT-AC68U, so no, it's not necessarily a bug, it can be an issue with your configuration or your router itself.

I also have had zero reboots using 374.42 and I flashed it the day it was released. Want to add not only have I had to reboots I have had no problems what so ever with this build.

I had no issues until I plugged in a brand new flash drive, then started having reboots. (I was having issues with USB drives plugged in on .41 also). I hadn't done a factory reset ever since the router was new, so created a script to reload the DHCP reservations etc and did the factory reset. Since then the reboots have been more frequent. Last night in the middle of the night it locked up to where the hardwired Windows PCs didn't see a network at all (all the LEDs on except the 2.4 network light) and it needed a power cycle to restart and several GUI reboots to get IPV6 working.

I'm turning off one USB drive feature at a time to try to troubleshoot. Turning off DLNA didn't cure the reboots, currently working on SAMBA off.

Total anecdote and only speaking personally, I've had zero problems with the .42 build on my 68U. Wi-Fi performance is fast and stable, but I've also disabled all beamforming for good measure (why complicate things, right?). No issues and good performance from my USB 3.0 external drive over SMB.

Also, if you have a Mac and had issues with Time Machine in 374.41, let me know if it's fixed in this build.
