Hi there,
I have good news for you. There is a 384.15 pre-release now available for testing.
It can be downloaded from https://github.com/gnuton/asuswrt-merlin.ng/releases/tag/384.15_0-gnuton0_alpha2
It is already running on my router and I'm connected thanks to it. So it should be safe and it should work.

Please test it out and let me know if you face any problem.

Thanks a lot!

AWESOME work once again @GNUton - flawless firmware upgrade from stable 384.14.2 to 385.15.0_alpha2 :).
Running in a small office environment on VDSL 40Mbps down 10Mbps up with latest amtm [FW version] plus Diversion pixelserv-tls / Entware / Skynet / FreshJR QOS / Scribe / scMerlin / uiDivStats / uiScribe / Stubby DNS / ntpd {firmware} / Disk check and 1Gb Swap file.

Survived several reboots ... and is rock steady :D:D {Thumbs-Up}

The DSL page is different from the regular WAN page, so implementing DNS Privacy isn't just a matter of toggling the switch to on at build time, it has to be manually merged into the DSL WAN page.

Many thanks for responses - the differences fully understood ... and the solution provided by RMerlin fully appreciated.
It would be great if @GNUton could find the time to do that merge :) given that the original code work is already available in Merlin-Ware.

@GNUton Any new info about this ? DNS over TLS is becoming used more and more nowadays, thanks for your contribution

Hi, there is a ticket open for that feature here https://github.com/gnuton/asuswrt-merlin.ng/issues/17.
"Unfortunately" the ticket is up to date. At the moment there are people interested in sponsoring but not yet people working on it. If you wanna give it a try you may find all the info you need in the ticket! :D

could you support DSL-AC51?

Sadly not - GNUton, despite his early ambitions on page 1 of this thread, only supports the DSL-AC68U.

NB - the firmware he supplied is based on RMerlin firmware for the RT-AC68U to which he merges the DSL section.
So - to begin with the base router must be one on which Merlin-Ware is supported.

See this link for a guide on supported routers ...

I was trying to build a custom firmware for Mediatek based DSL Asus routers but then I gave up when I faced a lot of issues in building it on the cloud. No idea if the circleci support is improved now...

I still would love to get something working for these routers but it won't be a Merlin firmware fork, but rather it could be an improved version of the Asus Firmware.

In any case, I do not have time ATM to work on it right now... but I would be more than happy in supporting anybody willing to continue my work.

You can achieve DoT by installing Stubby add-on which you will find here ...
https://www.snbforums.com/threads/stubby-installer-asuswrt-merlin.49469/

If you upgrade to @GNUton firmware 384.15_Allpha2 - you will already have amtm installed.
After installing Stubby from the command line mentioned in the link above - you will find that "Stubby"will appear in the amtm menu.

Unbound - a validating, recursive, caching DNS resolver - your very own lightweight DNS server with DNSSEC built in.

Just a heads up to all those @GNUton / Merlin DSL-AC68U users - if you have the latest GNUton 384.15_0_Alpha2 firmware - you can install unbound from amtm menu. It works incredibly well on the 3 DSL's I have and has made a really significant performance improvement to throughput on the routers.

More info here ...
https://www.nlnetlabs.nl/projects/unbound/about/ and for install script if not using amtm ...

I was trying to build a custom firmware for Mediatek based DSL

Part of the problem is a number of these do not run Asuswrt, but some other firmware. That's the case for the DSL-AC51U as well as the DSL-AC88U. Anyone supporting these would pretty much have to start from scratch, on a per-device basis.

Hi everyone, wondering if you can help. New to most of this home networking stuff. Trying to use DSL-AC68U to run IPTV in Ireland. Picture is ok for 10 seconds and then freezes. If I change channel it works again for 10 more seconds then freezes once more.
I am pulling my hair out at this point.
Any advice on a fix would be appreciated.

Thanks all...

Hi @SeamusMAcSpud ...did you find any solution for this issue? Is happening exactly the same to me, but with RT-AC86U. I've enabled all settings for multicast optimization (IGMP Proxy, Snooping, etc), but nothing works.

Thanks,
Regards!

Hi @maxiarg14 - off topic - this thread is for the GNUton firmware mods for DSL-AC68U.

Have you tried a search for "IPTV" in the search box top right of each page?
Lots of dedicated links discussing how best to get IPTV working - here are some ...
https://www.snbforums.com/search/1296596/?q=IPTV&o=date&c[node]=42

Sorry I can't help you - no IPTV here down South ... :(.
