Agreed!

@john9527 so glad you're back and keeping these routers in good working order!

DNSMASQ downlevel build 52D8

For anyone experiencing what may seem to be 'strange' DHCP/DNS issues, I have placed a 52D8 build in the Development-Beta folder. This build only rolls back dnsmasq/getdns/stubby to the previous releases.
Some things that have been reported on the latest dnsmasq in 52E7 include
- spin loops during a DHCP update
- loss of DHCP lease status
- address statements in the dnsmasq config no longer work (affects URL Filter)

Any idea why router(rt-n66u) doesnt get ipv6 (native) from ont? If i connect directly to the ont port since ont is set in bridge mode i get ipv6 too but behind router i'm only getting ipv4.

Are there any messages in the syslog relating to IPv6?

I attached syslog.
It looks like you changed the syslog loglevel......are the two loglevel settings under Administration > System set to the defaults?

But this is at least one problem....

Jan 21 13:47:20 rdnssd[423]: Child process hung up unexpectedly, aborting

Please append a screenshot of your IPv6 settings. Also, are you using any special DNS settings like DoT?

EDIT: Also, looks like you are running the 53D1 beta, so let's move the discussion over to that thread.

Questions have been asked before about Invalid Firmware Upload and similar errors, but I'm getting enough search hits that finding the information I need isn't easy.

I just downloaded (from https://1drv.ms/f/s!Ainhp1nBLzMJrEayV5NOiKa8zDA3) and tried to install 52E7 on my AC66U (MIPS) that is currently running Merlin 380.66_4 and received that well-known error message. I omit the full text here for brevity, unless someone really wants to read it again.

What is the right course of action:
  • Install the last Asus factory firmware that supports my device, and try the firmware upload again.
  • Install an older version of the Merlin firmware, and try again.
  • Something else entirely?
It is unfortunate that I must resort to repeating what might be a frequently asked question (even if not addressed on a well-known list of such) and adding yet more complication to future searches for the answer. But short of spending a lot of time sifting through search results, there's nothing else that one can do. (Google is probably of more use for such a search than is the snbforums search engine, but still returns a lot of chaff.)

See the Installation Notes.
• For supported routers currently running ASUS firmware 380.3000 or above, or Merlin 380.60 or above, you cannot load this fork using the built in firmware update web interface. You must use the ASUS Firmware Restoration Tool from the ASUS support website or the built in CFE Mini-Web Server to install this fork firmware. You must always perform a factory default reset following the firmware update when moving from ASUS OEM or Merlin firmware above level 374 regardless if you updated via the web interface or Restoration Tool.

Just wanted to drop my thanks in to you, John.

I've just put this on my AC66U for the first time to see what it's like and so far it seems really nice. Feels like this is a better choice than the latest ASUS releases.

I installed it from the CFE Mini-Web Server and it uploaded in about 10 seconds and rebooted within a minute or 2 which was nice. Did a factory reset as suggested and I'll see how things go :)

I updated my RT-N66U (Asus Restoration Tool) and it worked fined in Client mode.

However after I did a reset using the reset button: it's now "freezing" on the Wifi AP list when trying to use the Client mode again...

Is there a better way to reset it or a known issue with the reset button ? ("clear nvram" for instance / best practices...)

Thanks4all & cheers,
J.

I don't believe any Asus routers have a "Client Mode". What do you really mean?

"Media Bridge" mode indeed, sorry.
Using only the Wifi connection as a receiver (with a plugged ethernet device) and not really as a "router"/wifi Access Point...

Well I may doing something wrong, it's just a thought about past experience (in case some had the same?) and how I could do it better! :p ;)
