New Around Here
Hi, I am new to the SNB forums,

I am looking to clear some doubts for a home network

Facts
Cat6a cabling run across house
2 floor house
Ground floor accomodates a Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ box connected to a DLINK DGS 1005D Gig switch
an Netgear DG 834G Internet router for internet sharing.

Goals
Still require a switch for 5 - 8 ports patch panel
provide internet access on all TVs
stream audio and video from NAS box to TV and PC's
provide wireless access to laptop on 2nd floor

For new purchases

Which switch would be preferred for the patch panel ?
I was looking at DGS-2208 8-Port 10/100/1000 Desktop Switch?

Would I require another router on the second floor to provide Gig Ethernet ports and wireless n ?

Any feedback would be much appreciated

You can buy Gigabit switches based on price, vendor preference and warranty. I think D-Link is offering lifetime warranty on all their switches. But check the switch's web page before you buy.

You don't want to use a router, since that would create a new network that could cause connection problems. If you want both ports and wireless, then convert a wireless router to an AP. How To Convert a Wireless Router into an Access Point
