Is this right? Official AsusWRT Samba uses SMBv1 only?

Keep in mind with the recent Win10 update - SMB1 is removed - in previous Windows releases it was deprecated so it could be worked around...

Nope...
I am running Windows 10 Pro insider preview latest release. Control Panel, Turn Windows Features on or off, SMB1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support is still there and you have the option to choose client, server or both. I enable just client, rebooted the PC and was able to connect to my Asus router shares.

Correct! Great to know the mind is not failing you!!! At my advanced age I feel it is best to keep learning new things. Sometimes, though, it is really tough to sort through three score and eleven years of memories...
