No problem. First, I created an executable script in /jffs/scripts/ called restart_wan.sh:

Then in my existing services-start script, I added the line:

(sleep 20; /jffs/scripts/restart_wan.sh; /jffs/scripts/tailmon.sh -email) >/dev/null 2>&1  & # fix wan then reboot warning

Note if your don't use tailmon, delete the reference to that script.

A factory reset w/initialize all settings cleared the anomaly. I changed the minimum number of settings to make it work, so it might have been something I had tweaked over the years. I have done this in the past several times for system wide problems, not sure why I ruled it out for so long. Thanks for all the help.

BTW the speed test from within the gateway returns 1300/1300 up/down, but from the LAN it's more like 950/400. Is that normal?

If you want to test the actual throughput of the router, you will have to use something like iperf v2 (not v3 on windows) and connect a PC to the WAN port and another PC to a LAN port.

940-950 Mbit/s is the maximum you will see from a 1 Gb/s ethernet link due to overhead in the protocol. The software running in the device and sometimes the hardware itself, be it router, PC, etc can reduce that further. Running "speed test" from the router is not accurate. Any speed test is dependent on the hardware/software on both ends and everything in between, including internet traffic from the millions of others running speed test ;-)

My testing with ATT 1 Gbit fiber connection yields 940/940 Mbit/s from my PC to ATT's closest server. i don't run ASUS gear though. i use some older CISCO SMB gear.

There are ways to avoid it but very difficult and not 100% reliable. What I said in previous post works fine as I am on it now and getting 940 upload and download on the ASUS router.

I suppose different locations/installs may vary, but I've been using the "bypass ATT RG using dumb switch method" for over two years with nary a hiccup. The ATT RG sits dead on the shelf and is needed only if I have to reconnect after a complete power outage (long enough for my UPS to die - UPS provides the reliability of course). Even a cheap T-Link 5 port switch works fine, and it doesn't even interfere with the ability to use ATT native IPV6.

Same here...I've been using the "dumb switch bypass" method for almost six years (since March 2019), and I think I've had to manually "restart" my internet connection (by briefly re-plugging in my AT&T BGW210 "RG") maybe 5-6 times, if that. Sure, it's annoying to know that it could go out at any time randomly, but having all devices on UPSs helps a great deal.

*. Cat6 from Asus 2.5Gb port (blue) into the BGW320-500 Lan port (yellow)
*. Passthrough is set up on the as DHCPS-fixed, and the MAC for my ASUS is showing up. Changed DHCP lease from 0 to 1 day. Save and reboot.
*. Going to the ASUS interface, my IP is showing as the public IP.

I'm trying to use my BGW to only provide internet and no DHCP and let the ASUS handle everything. When i turn off DHCP on the BGW, i lose access to the internet and need to go and hardwire into the BGW turn DHCP back on. Evrything starts working again. Any ideas why turning off DCHP on the BGW does this?

Are you connecting any clients to the BGW320-500 other than the Asus router? I have my BGW320-500 Wi-Fi turned off. If nothing else is connected, then it shouldn't matter if its DHCP server is on or off since it's not being used. So just leave it on, I'd say.

Unless your doing something else, the BGW320-500 hands off the public IP to the router via DCHP-S (static), need DHCP on the BGW enabled and if it's the only thing plugged into it nothing else should be listeed on the pull down when setting up passthrough. As stated above turn off WiFi and let the AX88u Pro handle it..

On the ASUS, set WAN to Automatic IP (so it also uses DHCP to accept the Public IP from the BGW)
Though on the BGW320-500 you might consider the blue colored port to the ASUS AX88 Pro blue colored port (2.5Gb to 2.5Gb), up to you...

Thanks Rung. A bit more about my scenario. I have my BGW in my basement in one corner of the house. On the opposite side of the house upstairs is the ASUS. I have a long Cat cable that i run from the ASUS to the BGW.

The basement is a bit of a dead zone even for the ASUS. In the basement, 5 feet from the BGW is the PS5, I hardwired due to the dead spot. I am trying to get the hardwired PS5 to be managed by the ASUS without running another cable. Right now, i have it plugged into the BGW via a dumb switch.

Is there a way i can get the PS5, and whatver else pluged in to the switch to be managed by the ASUS without running anotht cable? I have a small managed switch well , and I thought maybe VLANS.

Right now, anything plugged into the BGW gets the BGW IP and i'd like it not to manage that gear. Thanks!

I feel your pain. I had a similar problem with my setup and never solved it. Ended up with a 2nd ASUS router as a wireless AiMesh node to solve. Performance is good for me but getting a wired run with Ethernet backhaul would have been preferable. I costed out using two managed switches to allow wan and lan on either side of the existing wan cable run, but it wasn't worth it for me.
