Speaking of swap, bookmarked this site a few dayz ago, haven't tried it though:
https://mydevtutorials.wordpress.com/2014/01/10/how-to-activate-swap-on-asus-rt-ac68u-router/

Thanks for the spoiler! I hadn't found that, and I haven't tried it yet. being a n00b to linux and digging into the backend code, I'm not sure whether I should go with putty or stick with the terminal...same/same, no doubt, in the end, but for now let's go oldschool I think.
EDIT/UPDATE - found it! and now I can see. thank you!

anyway, to see what happened with my mess,
https://www.hqt.ro/how-to-install-new-generation-entware/ and scroll down. i am the same name both here and there

UPDATE 2 - so it seems something got changed in AB on my router, and I bet this is why it's not working: the setup is looking for sda1 in the path on launch, but the USB drive is named Entware, so I get
sh: can't open /tmp/mnt/sda1/ab-solution.sh

Can this be fixed?

Without deleting anything what AB installed, try to run the install curl command from post one.
AB treats other scripts in /jffs/ nicely and does not simply delete them as the script did you ran.
You may can get AB running again that way.
If not, delete everything, including Entware, reboot router, install Entware and THEN install AB.

Thank you. I'll re-install tomorrow; AB ran, but it wasn't working, probably because there were "unknown operand:" messages.

Just a reminder: If you start from scratch, backup and then delete all /jffs/ files before install.

I'll search this thread to see if there might be anything in there I'll need to keep...OHHH yeah. The scripts! services-start and -stop, post-mount...

You're awesome for being SO great at support and advice. I'll have to check out your website to see if you have donation links...Bitcoin?

Hi, short question: adblock.mahakala.is offers a hosts file, but when I add it to the list, I always get "download failed" when trying to update, why is that?

I tried:
http://adblock.mahakala.is
http://adblock.mahakala.is/hosts

neither of them work.

I have reason for necrobumping this issue: That particular blocklist blocks the domain hosts-file.net, causing updates to the other lists depending on it to fail.

I found this after getting several legit websites blocked, after changing the blocklist configuration to include the mahakala list. That blocklist in particular is the culprit - it goes beyond blocking known malicious domains and advert-servers. Checking the list quickly, I think it's intended for office use where the employer wants to prevent their staff from surfing porn, torrent sites, shopping sites, browser based games etc.

That list also seems to change often, with domains such as ebay.co.uk and amazon.co.uk being blocked the other day but not after updating the list (again).

The hosts-file.net/emd.txt list does all this as well, though not the same extent - it doesn't block other blocking lists from being downloaded.

Indeed, hosts-file.net is in the mahakala list. I'll remove all hosts files providers in the next update of the addon file.
The mahakala list as well as Steven Black's hosts list is included in the 'AdsBeGone!' and 'AB-Max' blocking file types in AB-Solution 3.6.5.

@Beherit @Laonifaron in AB3.6.5, a temporary small blocking file is loaded before the update starts. This file does not contain any hosts that block the download of hosts-file.net hosts files.
