Router range: Merlin 374.42 vs. Asus 374.5517

In an attempt to figure out my problems with my Republic Wireless phone (see my other thread) I switched from the Asus 374.5517 build to Merlin's 374.42. It seems to me that the range on my 5Ghz channel increased a noticeable amount. Is Merlin's build doing something different?

If you're talking about the RT-N66U router, yes. RMerlin is using a customized setup for the driver which gives better range and throughput.

It was originally the -em (engineering mode) version, but it is stable enough to leave this option (or options) on permanently.
