US bans sale of all *new model* non-US made wifi routers

It will be amusing seeing routers in 2027 getting security patches in every country but USA, and potentially geo-blocks in place to prevent homegrown patching.

My guess would be use plan (a) everyone to classify all their new products as business class routers

Hmm...

"Starting in September 2026, retailers are prohibited from importing new inventory of covered devices."

I did not find this restriction in any links to official documents posted so far... 🤔

Good read just came across my desk...

"Simply banning people from buying new models isn’t going to help US manufacturing revive any more than tariffs have. For American companies to start building Wi-Fi equipment requires a fundamental shift in our economy. I don’t see that happening.

In the meantime, Wi-Fi users will have no choice but to keep using older equipment. As any security expert will tell you, these routers will fall out of support and become more vulnerable than ever to newly discovered security holes. Good job, FCC, good job."

I'll be looking to acquire second hand WiFi 8 routers from abroad, preferably with a set of screws for me to put it together...
