Occasional Visitor
I recently upgraded to an AX86U Pro which is running up to date Merlin firmware. There are occasional WAN drops. I don't think these are necessarily related to the router itself as they occurred with the previous one as well, AC68U, but does anyone have any suggestions on the cause of them and a potential fix? I have posted excerpts from the event log where it's happened. You can see from this that the disconnection only lasts a matter of seconds. With the previous router, this was minutes but I guess the faster processer in the new router mitigates this to a degree. My ISP provides a static IP address - I don't know if that is of any relevance.

What ISP equipment is the RT-AX86U Pro's WAN port connected to? A router, or ONT, or something else? If you are getting WAN drops across different routers check that upstream ISP equipment. Also which port, 1GB or the 2.5GB port, is the RT-AX86U Pro configured to use for it's WAN port?

My ISP is Zen UK and the Asus is connected to an Openreach SKU of Huawei MT992 G.fast modem. When the disconnect happens nothing appears different with the modem's status LEDs, e.g., it doesn't show an internet disconnect or a reset etc.

The Huawei is connected to the Asus into the standard WAN port on the Asus. The connection max bandwidth is 330Mbps.

Access the Huawei's administration page and see if there is a log you can review to see if the modem or broadband connection is going offline at the same time the router is indicating the WAN connection going offline. If you don't know how to access the Huawei MT992's admin interface, see the user manual for the MT992 which should explain how to access it.

Edit to add: You may also have to search Huawei support forums to see if the MT992 needs any additional configuration when a down stream customer purchased router like an Asus is used. Or if the downstream Asus router needs any specific configuration adjustments.
