White blank Device Icons

Hi,

Recently got an BE-88U using latest merlin and some icons go white:

I can see the icons when I select them, but they go white -most of the icons appear mine but some like smart speaker Nintendo Switch etc, they just appear white - but they appear fine if I use the Asus app - tried the usual rebooting etc but same issue

Yeah tried different browser and different devices, and cleared cache, same issues
Hope it's not time for a factory reset if its been awhile. I had to do one recently....Best of luck!

Won’t fix the underlying issue as to why those devices are not picking up icons, even a default one, but maybe you can do a test on one of them by adding the device (if not already added) to your manually assigned DHCP list and then go and select a custom icon and see if that shows up?

Bit of a kludge if it works but better than no icon?

Some Icons work but others when I select them, appears white box, seems the white ones are like the last of each section list and all the transportation ones are white blank icons

Thanks for giving that a try. Interesting result.

I’m not sure where to go from here TBH, except to follow @Kingp1n’s suggestion and ask a few questions about your FW upgrade path (presumably now on Merlin as you posted in this forum), and whether you factory default hard reset between versions, and input the settings manually, not from a saved config.

If the answer is you got to Merlin from stock via a hard reset after you installed Merlin, then it might be a good idea to flag this to RMerlin to see if that can be identified as being a component of his FW or not.

It would be interesting whether the same devices on stock present the same issue.

If you’re interested in the source of the allocation of device types, have a peruse of this thread, especially @dave14305 links to GitHub, but I don’t think it will solve the issue, just FYI.

When the issue presents in the web browser, try opening the browser console (usually F12) and see if it indicates any errors in the page load.

May or may not play a part, but do you by chance have the addon script YazDHCP installed? Or any other addon scripts installed?

Went straight to Merlin after I got this router and didn’t use any old configs

Yeah I have the YazDHCP installed which I think it has caused something
As a troubleshooting step, uninstall YazDHCP, then reboot the router and check if the issue persists.

ask a few questions about your FW upgrade path
Could you please share the Merlin FW version you have on your RT-BE88U? Latest Alpha 3006.102.6 or Latest stable 3006.102.5?
And can you confirm you did do the factory reset done after Merlin was installed?

Any difference on latest stock (if you tried that, or are willing to revert to it to test)?

Hi, using the latest merlin stable 3006.102.5 and nope I didn't factory restore, I managed a workaround for them to display, I used the Asus app to select the icons so they appear good on the web page, but I tried to select it on the web page, they stay white blank

I had one device on one of my VLAN subnets that showed up as white square. On VPN server page selected item and then changed ICON to one from standard options selection and clicked apply. Seems to be holding in my case.
