I had the same GUI-issue login problem yesterday when I switched Wifi-channel. and after that I couldn't log in either with Chrome, Firefox or Edge. But when i tried a "private session" in Firefox I could log in immediately.

I do not use any installed antivirus only Win 10 default defender antivirus/Spam. I'll follow this thread as I'm sure there are enough people impacted we will have a solution soon.

Read through that thread and yes it seems it was never fixed.I'm just really curious why some people have issues and others don't. I've never had this problem before. For me even the revert to older firmware was a pain as I had to use rescue mode as I couldn't access the GUI and am not up on telnet

I don't have any kind of printer at all.
Nope, no printer here.

I Have a Hp Laser jet 200 Printer on the network. But I never tried to disconnect it. I reverted back to the older firmware so no more issues for me and honestly I spent way too much time trouble shooting this and don't have more time to figure it out. I'll wait until there is solution. For the record there is no error just blank white screen. I was able to get in randomly right after a reboot but a second attempt would not work. Tried 3 different computers and 3 different browsers. Also, I have a Rt68U I use as an access point and I also upgraded that to the newest firmware and same issue with blank screen on logging in. I reverted the firmware and that works now.

I have 2 ac66u's setup as media bridges on the latest firmware and they work fine as well.

Do you use any browser based ad blockers like ghostery or add blocker? check your browser to see if that's the problem. Not sure, but worth checking?

I have used 3 different Browsers and IE is never used by me so no I dont have Ghostery or Ad Blocker. I also used 4 different computer so hard to believe related to browser

I dont think its browser related either, every browser I have tried on 3 computers and my phone are unable to access it through normal means. If I go to the page usmarine posted I can get in, though navigating is hit or miss. Question, do you have any special characters in your web ui login?

I suspect your httpd might be crashing, so it gets restarted by the watchdog.

Looks like it crashes whenever I attempt to login, the screen shots above were just a little after one of the attempts.

Please don't make this mistake. This problem has nothing to do with the browser. This is a server side issue. The httpd keeps restarting for some reason.

I haven't noticed any special characters when I did mange t get it in. However, when I tried to downgrade the firmware using he admin page I kept getting the message the file site was not available (something like that). Zero issues with older firmware so def related to the firmware. I wasted most of my evening yesterday trying everything but gave up around 10pm

I upgraded to the latest version of the firmware and I'm getting the same error. This is what I'm getting in the syslog:

Oct 8 18:34:26 watchdog: restart httpd
Oct 8 18:34:26 rc_service: watchdog 433:notify_rc start_httpd
Oct 8 18:34:26 RT-AC87U: start httpd - SSL

It could have something to do with the browser, but it isn't necessarily the browser's fault. Last weekend, using older firmware, I logged into my RT-AC3200 to reconfigure wifi. Went to my daughter's house and did some config on her Netgear R7000 (hand-me-down from me). At first I couldn't get into her router because the ASUS error page kept coming up, even though I wasn't inside my network! I was forced to clear my browser's cache to get in. Later this same thing happened at home and clearing the cache fixed it again. Seems ASUS has a script bug that's been lurking for some time. Did you try clearing your cache?

Except I cleared the Cache multiple times and it made no difference. Also I tried new devices that I never used to connect to the router before with new browser. I even went as so far as restoring Win 7 on a PC and tried and no go

It's starting to look like something can cause the httpd server to crash based on the info from a few of those reports.

Those with the issue, anything particular about your login credentials?

- Did you change the username? What's its length?
- What's the length of your password? Any non-alphanumeric character in it?

Hmm. Well that does it for me--I'm definitely going to wait out this firmware then. Thanks for reporting.

I left admin as the username but I do have a special character in the password. That is something I will test tonight. Length is 10 characters.

Edit: I just tried to test it remotely from work but the page is broken. I cannot apply changes in its current state. I'll factory reset tonight and pick a different password.

You can also change the password over SSH.

Code:
nvram set http_passwd="newpassword"
nvram commit
service restart_httpd

I didnt have it enabled and it wont let me apply the change to the page. Getting "Connection Refused". I'll check it out tonight after my sons game. Only a couple pages work but most break when navigating to them. For instance this is what the Administration page looks like now.

That looks like result of having a special character in one of the fields.....SSID, client names, port forward names, etc. Anything other than alphanumeric, - or _ in any of these?

Only one I can think of is also in the wifi passwords. But that has always been the case, only this version of firmware is affected by it apparently.
