I have just got the AC-RT68U.

I got 60/60MBIT internet
im running asus firmware .339 (will the merlin firmware work on this router?)

And i have so many dropouts.

the 5 GHZ is dropping my ios devices all the time!

the 2.4 is very bad performance. around 1mbit in the speedtest.net
i only got good performance maybe upto one day after reseting the devices.
then it is back again with poor performance again.

the 5ghz usually get good speed but are dropping out all the time!

i have read merlins sticky wireless note on this board an follow all the guides and change wifi channel but no luck. is it the firmware on this new router or is it broken ?.

For AC68R, I can only set the bandwidth to 20Mhz. no 20/40 or 40 because it can't be saved.
That is an issue right there. My AC68U runs great at 40MHz bandwidth on the 2.4GHz band. Sounds like you have a pretty busy network. I have found the AC68U to be more finicky about preamble length. Make sure it is set to "short" on both bands if you have a network with a great deal of traffic.

Based on my problems and what I have learned:
-check your authentication - my 5GHz at WPA works great, but at WPA2 dies all the time.
-check your beamforming on 5Ghz - try to disable it. Also, play with disabling beamforming on 2.4GHz and enabling it on 5Ghz. And the other way around.
-try to increase the Tx power settings. My sweet spot is around 110mW.

I hope one of these will help in your config.

:

A lot of people are complaining about 5GHz on iOS.
Try .306 firmware (it was pulled due to other issues) but it
worked great for wireless both 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
I am afraid that the recent change to the wireless driver in .339 made all
those problems related to iOS compability... Just my 2 cents.

I actually tried rmerlin's firmware for the new asus rt-ac68u. that seem to get rid of the most drops. and will also try the old firmware from asus to see the difference.
