Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.10 is now available

Apologies, if this issue has been raised in previous threads.
I updated from 3004.388.9_2 to this new .10 version and had major issues. I was not able to access the web interface anymore and connection via the iphone app failed too. The only solution was to hard reset the device, downgrade the firmware and upload my old config. My device is RT-AX88U. This is the first time ever I experienced any issues with the Merlin FW.

Already discussed in multiple posts within this thread, but my bad for forgetting to update the second post reserved for documenting such issues.

Asus sent me the precompiled files with the fix late last night, I need to find the time to build firmware images with these updated files.

Please give these test builds a try. They include the fix provided by Asus for the httpd server crashing when logging in using the APP API.

This is the only change at this time.

Been running perfectly. Noticed with 3004.388.10 that ram utilization was way off, cache and buffers would 50%+ on memory usage pie chart in scMerlin. With 3004.388.10_1-g74977d9bf4 it's back to my normal and the logs are eerily quiet and uneventful on the router and nodes. No more wild channel changes,or crashes, just works 👍

RT-AX86U - Can't update from 3004.388.9.2 to 3004.388.10. I see at least a few other people with this issue so it would seem that it could be a problem with the build, but others not having this issue. I have flashed many versions of Merlin in the past with no issue.

Is there a fix? I would definitely prefer not to have to factory reset.

Might try getting to Beta1 first and then to 10-1 see post above for the download or jump to it instead of 10.0

Flashing to RT-AX86U_3004_388.10_1-g74977d9bf4_pureubi.w didn't not work and I remain on 3004.388.9_2 . Any other ideas?
Did you try getting Beta1 then 10_1, anything in the logs or what’s the error when it fails.

The ultimate fix is to flash the BIOS using ASUS Firmware Restoration version 2.1.0.3

Trying to flash RT-AX86U_3004_388.10_beta1_pureubi.w also results in no change, stilll on 3004.388.9_2. I'm not sure what I would look for in the system log.

The forum is littered with similar attempts by folks who can’t get a FW update to take, (I’ve been there too). I won’t go and find them all, but from memory I’d suggest:
  • Check the FW is actually for your router… and not the one below (my error) or above it on the list, and not Pro or non Pro when you have the other one…
  • Download it again, from a different source if possible.
  • Clear browser cache, refresh with CTRL-F5, try a different Browser.
  • Use wired Ethernet cable PC to router rather than Wi-Fi.
  • Remove your USB drive.
  • Restart your router, by switching it off using the physical switch or pulling the Power Supply, leave for a couple minutes, try again.
  • Downgrade FW, then Update.
  • Update to a Stock then to Merlin (you may lose some settings..)
  • Factory Reset.
  • Use the FW restoration utility…
  • Panic 😱

A quick note after using version 388.10 on my AX88U for about twenty days.

Everything is working like a charm (WAN/LAN/WIFI)
Nothing unusual in the logs.
And memory usage seems normal here.

Thanks again to RMerlin for this version... ;)

Definitely correct FW, downloaded it again. After power cycle, I tried a different browser connected via Ethernet with the USB drive unplugged and I couldn't go back to 9 or forward to 10.
This is frustrating. I really didn't want to factory reset, but I guess that's next.

Also, for some reason, my laptop will not resolve www.asus.com and the website doesn't load. Same thing on another laptop. If I hotspot my phone off my 5G connection, I can then resolve www.asus.com and load the website. I can ping www.asus.com through the router gui. DNS on the laptop is set to my router IP. I don't want to tie up this thread fixing that, but if that could potentially be related at all, I could start a new thread.
