Do ya'll see anything weird in my system logs thats not normal?

My 2.4ghz band wireless range is only 10dbm better than my 5ghz band wireless range. It seems like no matter what I try to do to get my 2.4ghz band wireless strength back it just doesn't work.

My 2.4ghz band wireless strength used to be 20dbm better than my 5ghz band strength at all times and now it never goes above 10dbm better.

Just recently I re-installed this new 374.43 merlin firmware onto my router by using the cfe web gui asus webserver page through the recovery mode and at first my 2.4 ghz wireless strength was at like the same as my 5ghz band strength which is around -62dbm and it has risen up to -52dbm over the course of the day which is weird in my opinion because my 5ghz band wireless strength is always the same no matter what i do to the router.

Help!?

My router is: rt-n66u b1, cfe bootloader is 1.0.1.4, and firmware is merlin build(374.43)

Looks like your NTP Server isn't updating.

The wireless may be affected by other traffic noise.

Have you tried a factory restore?

RMerlin is it me or the way to see neighboring WiFis is not included in this version. Did I miss it somewhere?
Please reply.

I recently change the HDD attached to my AC56U (running the last version of Asuswrt-Merlin, 374.43-2). The new storage is a WD5000BPKT (SATA2, 7200rpm) in a Raidsonic Icy Box IB-231StU3S-G enclosure (Innostor IS888 controller inside).

How can I verify if the storage is using the USB3 port at its maximum speed? The USB3 interference option is disabled and the file transfer speed from/to PC is somewhere between 24-28MB/s. The partition on the storage is NTFS formatted.

Also, is the any way to share an arbitrary folder from / (let's say /mnt) other than modifying smb.conf at boot? I'm coming from Tomato and there I can share whatever folder I want.

Thanks.

Merlin compatible with Android 4.2

Hi everyone, I'm new to SNB and just picked up an Asus RT-N66 router. :)

I'm dumping the Buffalo 300 something router I have had for the last three years because wireless N is just too slow. Besides the Playbook, which is collecting dust, we don't have any Wireless AC devices so Wireless N is good enough for me.

While doing some research last night, I stumbled about Merlin and Padavan and am drawn to the former (Merlin!) for the support provided to end-users.

I'm highly considering updating the router to Merlin and was wondering if this will solve the issue of Android devices stuck on 4.2 not being able to connect to DD-WRT router signals.

I only have on 10" Kobo tablet that is stuck on 4.2 and I have to use an Edimax access point (much slower and signal weaker) to get online.

Would like to know if the Merlin router firmware is compatible with Android 4.2 devices. I know it's Google's fault but just wanted to find out. :)

Many thanks in advance.

I've never had any problems with various versions of Android when I was using DD-WRT, but did have issues with the Xbox One and DD-WRT.

I've got an N66U running Merlin and my 4.2.2 Samsung tablet works fine with it.

Thanks Mark/y. My Kobo Arc can connect fine to the router. I can't believe how easy it is to set up a guest account. :)

RT-N16 and .374

Hi everybody...

I own a RT-N16, revision 1B, and a few days ago I reverted to ASUSWRT / Merlin to try the new dual WAN feature.

But now I'm stuck, rather than stock....

I initially reverted to the 3.0.0.4.374.5117 original firmware, and the 2.4GHz wireless (the only one on the N16) stopped working: No LED, no wl0 MAC address, no radio present (The wl radio command outputs "no driver present")

Then tried Merlin's 374.43 with same results and downgrading to .372.31 has been the only solution, but it lacks the dual wan feature.

It had happened to anyone? Is there any way to upgrade to 3.0.0.4.374 and have a working wireless?

Thank you in advance for your help...

Performance wise, how does this firmware compare to the Asus stock firm ware? Reason I ask is because I have 0 issues running stock and if it is not broke why fix it?

However if it is faster that is a different story!:D

I dread doing an update just in case it all goes pair shaped, I therefore upgrade infrequently.

Took the plunge today and updated from 374.40 to 374.43 on RT-N66u.
All I did to do this was:
Dismount the data stick and remove it.
Upload new firmware.
Plug the data stick back in.

I was delighted to find everything just came back up, my Cherokee powered Intranet, the FTP site and even the SMB shares all back. Too good to be true, I went to shields up and even that had no red ports.

I like the fact that you can turn on FTP for the LAN and there is another switch for the wan - excellent.

Well done Merlin and thank you.

Bob.

Performance will be equal or superior, depending on which particular aspect you are referring to.

Wifi performance for instance should be identical. However, OpenVPN performance will be significantly better.

Hello Merlin.
Problem with MKV files and Philips Tv with router AC66u

it's because of problem with Minidlna
yeah i know it's not your problem, but for last 4 years, you - only one person, who helped fix it.

on this screenshot - this error, but i don't know how make compilation.
can you in your next firmware, fix it too?

Thank. you.

Yes I have tried that many times.

What should I do for my ntp server to update?

I'm beginning to think it could be a hardware failure.

Like right now on my 2.4ghz wireless band, my bars drop from 5 to 4 but there is no change in signal on Inssider4

Jun 21 23:09:17 kernel: eth2: received packet with own address as source address
What causes this to happen?

hi

Im currently on 374.40, I have not been following this thread for a while and have noticed that there has been a few updates since.

I take it that 374.43 is the latest?

Would I need to reset my router after updating to 374.43 if I have missed some of the last versions or should it be ok without doing a reset.

I dont mind resetting but it can be a pain with all my devices, also is worth me upgrading, not had problems with 374.40 but if there are security fixes and the general feedback is good I might update.

thanks

Depending on the specific model you have, 374.43_2 may be the latest and you can always look at the changelog to see what has been updated.

I am confident that you can also upgrade to the latest without a full reset.

Thanks Merlin,

So sar no VPN or me, I just use it for XBL, and normal internet usage, I.E Ipods, notebooks, Lan devices.

Would my usage benefit from your FW, especially XBL?
