"Running a RT-87U here and since I installed 384.4-Beta1 and 2 my internet speed (using speedtest.net) has decreased dramatically."
I have the opposite experience. I have three tv's, media server, four phones, media bridge and gaming hooked up. Since Beta 1 and 2 everything is rock solid and with better speed than ever before.
I had to do a factory default, however. Have you done this?

Hi there. Something weird is happening on my AC86U - apparently when I upgraded to the Beta 1 and Beta 2, my 5GHz wifi is unusable. I can't even access the Wifi configuration page. Worst still, the AC86U keeps on restarting every few minutes. Rolling back to 384.3 for now

@RMerlin,

Have you solved problems with the 5 GhZ WiFi speed for the iPhone X? (problem solved since Merlin 384.3 beta)
With Merlin I got 866, but with the stock Asus firmware, I have 300/444. That's why I think you changed something ;-)

5GhZ information:

Wireless Mode: N/AC Mixed
Channel bandwidth: 80 MhZ
Control Channel: 108
Extension Channel: Auto

Other people (@Broken Hope) had this problem too and indicated that it was gone:

[Beta 384/NG] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.3 Beta is now available

@Broken Hope,

Can you indicate the problem is still gone with the new Merlin firmware? (version 384.4 beta)

Most of the time my iPhone X connects at 866, occasionally it connects at 433, rebooting the phone resolves it and no other devices are affected, I’m thinking it might be a bug in the firmware of the iPhone X.

I know 11.3 updates the radio firmware perhaps that will help.

Thank you for your information! :) Let's hope that iOS 11.3 will solve this problem. It remains a separate problem.

Installed 384.4 beta2 on two AC86U's and one AC87U (AP setup) and no factory resets. On power off/on afterwards one AC86U would not complete power up. Did the firmware restore process and all good after that, then all working well. Via speedtest.net the AC86U's faster then beta1 or at anytime before (260 Mbps download now 264) on cogeco cable modem.

Ok, now I have experience the services-start problem.

@RMerlin I think lldpd or services-start starting point should be adjusted to somewhere.

Hi John, yes I performed a factory reset after upgrading to 384.4-Beta1 followed by manually setting all options once again. Did not help.

Any chance you could fix your Wireless Log to report the router mode correctly?

What happens if you switch back to the local syslog daemon?

Tried to disable (then enable) network logging in between. No result.

Brand new RT-AC86U running 384.4.beta2

Works well, but I noticed several issues:

1. HDD spindown unreliable. The same disc was spinning down without any problems with RT-AC66U runing 380.xx
2. Wifi radar shows only my networks
3. Wifi timer works until router restart, after that Time setting resets

Thank You, Merlin

Can someone tell me what this entry in the General Log of RT-AC86U means:

Mar 7 05:34:40 kernel: jffs2: warning: (30142) jffs2_sum_write_data: Not enough space for summary, padsize = -1025

Is it something to worry about and if so, is there something to correct it?

Thanks

I have the same question.

Any chance you could fix your Wireless Log to report the router mode correctly?

The Wireless log is accurate. From the radio's point of view, you can work in two mode: AP, or STA. AP is when clients connect to you (i.e. router or Access Point mode), while STA is when you are a client (i.e. Repeater or Media Bridge mode). The wireless log reports the chip's operating mode, not the router's operating mode.

1) Exact same sd-idle daemon as before. Spindown is dependent on the disk's firmware, and whether any service accesses that disk or not.
2) Make sure you enable data collection: https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/wiki/Wi-Fi-Radar

Hi,

Interesting... wondering why the daemon's activity seems to be logged incorrectly... as mentioned before, when disks spin up, nothing shows up in the log, then they spin down, the log says they are spinning up... can anybody reproduce/confirm this behavior?

Cheers,
D.

Update:
Tried to disable (then enable) network logging in between. No result.
Tried disable (then enable) custom scripts with reboot in between. No result.

That log shows your scripts properly running and also being logged so. What is the actual issue you are experiencing?

@RMerlin I think lldpd or services-start starting point should be adjusted to somewhere.

I suspect that over time as Asus added new entries to start_services() and I merged changes in, they ended up being merged after start-services. I just moved services-start down to the end of the function like it used to be.

D.
He did some mistake to sc-idle when he fixed log problem ' o'

@RMerlin
Code:
-    _log ( LOG_INFO, "%s", _transition_message ( disk, "up", msg_buf ) );
+    _log ( LOG_INFO, "%s", _transition_message ( disk, "down", msg_buf ) );

-        printf("%s", _transition_message ( disk, "up", msg_buf ) );
+    _log ( LOG_INFO, "%s", _transition_message ( disk, "up", msg_buf ) );
