So I'm trying to connect an Asuswrt (specifically ac56u) to another router and give it wan from that router.

I did it, when I connect to the ac56u, and point to a webpage, it loads.

Problem is in the ASUSwrt page, it shows that wan is not connected, and when I go to downloadmanager, no torrents are downloading. As if the router wasn't connected to wan.

I have an ASUS connected behind another router and I don't have any problems.

Things to try:

Connect LAN port on primary router to WAN port on ASUS

On the ASUS select WAN connection as static and select an IP in the range of the primary routers DHCP.

Set up the DHCP server on the ASUS in its own subnet.

Depending on what services you want to run on the ASUS you may need to set up port forwarding rules on the primary router.

You also may need to look at running a dynamic DNS service on your primary router.

Good luck with some experimentation you can do what you want.

Apparently to do this you MUST set the asus router in AP mode. It cannot be set in wireless router mode to do this.

Problem solved.
