Hi,
The DoT and ntpd should be part of the latest release of my firmware. If you are using the DSL as WAN you may have it disabled although.
There is a task https://github.com/gnuton/asuswrt-merlin.ng/issues/17 which is about tweaking the web ui in order to configure DoT for DSL as WAN.
You can already now use DoT if WAN is eth.
But if you wanna use DSL as WAN as workaround for now I think ( I have not actually tested it) you should:
1. enable dual wan
2. set DSL as primary
3. set eth0 as secondary
4. configure DoT from the webui using the setting page for the eth wan.

As for the ASUS binaries, I never do anything to them. I won't add or strip out anything from there unless it's in an experimental branch (eg: feture repeater branch)
In my understading of the DoT, it doesn't require any binary tweaking either. The way it works can be seen in the commits https://github.com/gnuton/asuswrt-merlin.ng/commit/3cc2ba9bd785edc238edbe26e4c36ff287815147
Cheers!
Thanks - but I'm not a coder [at least not any more since my programming days on IBM System36 mainframes back in the 1970's ] - with no inclination to fiddle in that space nowadays. I've been spoilt too long by clever coders like you and the many other coders on this forum.

For now - I will stick with running scripts provided by others to achieve the router extensions useful to me [which means using amtm as the front end to all expansions I may need - plus @FreshJR 's awesome QOS which hopefully will find its way into amtm in the near future].

Can I use this firmware if I'm only using the dsl ac68u as a router?

I've got a Draytek Vigor 130 modem in bridge mode connected to the ac68u,also can I use the FreshJR Adaptive QOS with or without this firmware?

If it's possible I'd appreciate an easy to follow tutorial please

I m using as a standard router.
Reset the router
do not plug in any Ethernet cable,
connect to ASUS wireless,
Browse http://router.asus.com or 192.168.1.1
Click the button on the top left to skip the dsl config
Enter the password for the wireless lan
Connect to the new lan
get in the router again via browser
Get into the menu WAN then DUAL WAN, select primary wan: etherrnet port 1.
Wait
When done plug in the ether et cable into the port 1.
Done

So reset the router to factory default, connect to the wifi to set up dual wan again and then install the firmware?

How do I then add the FreshJR script?

I've also jusy had my dlm reset so can I do this now or wait for the dlm to finish?

Bt told me 10 days for it to finish adjusting the connection,or am I ok becuase the modem won't be switched off only the router so I'm still connected to the internet?

Thats only meant to get faster connection (modem may sync at faster speeds after some days), at the beginning it may be slower than possible.

I've got the latest gnuton installed,my cpu temp is showing as 82C is that ok ?

Room temp 20c,also how do I go about installing scripts?

I want to install the Jfresh script (I've posted in that thread too) but wasn't sure if i need to do anything different because it's not the ordinary merlin firmware.

This is the firmware I installed,I hope this was the right one https://github.com/gnuton/asuswrt-merlin.ng/releases

everything will be same as with Merlin firmware, only DSL-part included.
82 is hot but seems to be in most upper range for DSL-AC68U. Silent fan on backside (5V from USB) could easily bring it down below 70 where all components would be happy about.

So I've installed the correct one then and those temps are normal for custom firmware?

Those temps are without any load btw,cpu cores 3% max

if you can disassamble and make better contact to heatsink ...
Or like I wrote 3 postings ahead.

Please stop here, has nothing to do in THIS thread, open your own if you still feel you have to.

Sorry,I'm new to this and just wanted to know that I hadn't done anything that may have resulted in a higher temp, seeing as you said it was on the high side.

I concur with Grisu on all suggestions....
with everything aside, there is newegg and ebay as last resort---- they sell DIY fan kits for the RT-AC68U
shopping

stay cool in the summer.... it also doubles as a space heater in the harsh winter months....

That temperature is normal. Just enjoy your new RMerlin powered router. :)

You may want to use the following guide to get scripts working on your router.

amtm Step-by-Step https://www.snbforums.com/threads/amtm-step-by-step-install-guide-l-ld.56237/#post-483421

how could a temp 82 @20 room temp be ok?
In summer he will be up to 90 and more (linear rise with room temps) ...

That is what the SoC is designed for.

but not all other components on the bord!
It is not a PC mainboard where CPU get cooled by a fan and surround components keep quite cool.
Here the heat is spreading throughout the wholecircuit board inside housing.
