[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.13 is now available

Hi everybody, I'm experiencing two different issues on my new RT-AX88U & Merlin 384.13 directly upgraded from Asus stock firmware:

1) When I push the reboot pushbutton from the GUI (from Win PC or from smartphone by chrome browser), at least one time on five router shuts down and then power off (no lights on) without restart; I need to switch off the phisycal power switch and then put it on again to recover it. Sometimes it happens when the router reboots by the schedule reboot, also. Planned every night.

2) Using asuscomm.com DDNS (after have asked and obtained the DDNS name host reset of the previous RT-AC87U from Asus) the DDNS service never refresh the host and the Let's Encrypt certificate status holds always on "updating...."

Anybody has the same issue?

Jepp. same issue with my AC86U from time to time. Someone earlier said it is a hardware issue that could happen any router. I have two...only happens on one, never the other one.

I had nothing but problems with 384.13 Merlin on my AC86U... Random disconnects, wifi signal unreachable, GUI lags, etc., so basically unreliable device.

Moved to ASUS official 5 days ago, everything works like a charm (except the log is flooded with WLCEVENT lines)...

However...

I really miss all the scripts, so please... fix the version for AC86U... pretty please...

Were you expecting to get 500Mbps out of the vpn connection?

It will be silly to expect close to 500Mbps with vpn, however I would like to know how much I can get at best with any other hardware or software. Nevertheless, how can we verify if the new Asus Firmware Version:3.0.0.4.384_81049 is using the hardware acceleration. There were some article like this one https://www.privateinternetaccess.c...celeration-is-here-for-routers-using-openvpn/ , as the Asus firmware was not using the hardware acceleration more than a year back. If it does now, then I wonder what can I expect more with Asus-merlin firmware. Is it going to help me to do selective routing such that the devices connected to non VPN tunnels will get the max bandwidth 500 each and the devices connected with VPN tunnel will share the 500mbps from that vpn tunnel only? Or if I can ask, is it like the total bandwidth will always get divided among the connected devices, does not matter with or without VPN?

There is nothing wrong with this version. I had two devices (AC86U) on 384.13 and did not notice the issues you described. Now I am on the alpha of version 384.14 and still do not notice those issues. It sounds as though you have something unique to you so resetting your device to a known good state may be a good start.

Same i've been on the firmware with 45 days up time and not a single issue.

What do you need from 2.4.8 specifically?

I am running 384.13 on an Asus RT-AC86U and only noticed something wrong when my partner complained regularly of internet slow downs, dropouts. After reading this thread further I noticed my ram is 95% used. I shutdown the system every night and reboot in the morning. I do not use QoS, Trend Micro, or IPv6, but do have one VPN server active. I do not know what I can do to lower memory usage. While a long time Linux desktop user (only), I do not have a technical understanding and would appreciate any advice to fix the slow downs and memory consumption. Below is the output from top M. The system status screen is showing 95% memory use when this top data taken:

You have about 70MB cached memory, which means it’s used until something else needs it. Run the “free” command in ssh to see another representation of memory use.

Your load averages seem high to me. Mine are usually below 1 on an AC68U. But your CPU util summary looks fine.

Probably the Media server scanning the drive and caching the file info. Removing the drive restarts those processes, probably freeing the cache.

What do you use the drive for? Do you need the Media Server?

The attached drive is used daily as a network share between devices. And yes, I do use the media server to stream music to speakers. I did notice that "scanning" was active on the media server page, but having unticked the create db at every boot, I thought that stopped that unless to here were changes?

EDIT: Disabling the media server reduces ram use from 95% down to 67%. When media server is activated and scanning stops, RAM remains at 94-5% utilization though. I have specified the media folder location manually.

DualWAN - PPTP VPN (up to 1000MBit), PPPoE (100MBit), Load balance.
Uploaded 380.69_2 FW (one of the last w/o DualWAN problems).
Specified same settings.

Tested with uTorrent (several downloads up to 40MBit, uploads up to 8MBit) + working IPTV (provided by PPPoE ISP):
1. No "dst cache overflow" errors -> no hangs.
2. No "TLS handshake"problem on browser (Firefox, Win10x64).
3. Both WAN interfaces are sucessfully connected.
Everything seems OK.

Seems something was broken since 380.69_2.

Is there a way to route a wireless connection around my OpenVPN connection? PPV with my cable provider does not work going through the VPN. I use Marlin 384.13 with an AC3100.

For my sanity, future at this residence and keeping my VPN I need to get this to work.

Hey thanks. It -seems- to work. PPV is working on one box. I have set 192.168.1.100 (my cable box) as the source IP and 0.0.0.0 as the dest IP with WAN as the interface
I'm trying to say that IP should go around the VPN and straight to the WAN. Am I just seeing spontaneous luck or i this it?

Here is what my setup looks like:

I have 26 clients assigned static IP addresses. Only those three above route outside the full time VPN via the WAN.

Hey Thanks. I am sort unsure its working. It weird. I need 192.168.1.100 (cable box) to go through my router only (I assume 192.168.1.1) and everything else to go through the VPN.

so I'd enter:
Policy Rules
(name) PPV 192.168.1.100 (router) 192.168.1.1 WAN (send PPV traffic to the WAN?) and everything else through VPN
would that say that any other traffic goes thru the VPN or do I need a 2d rule?
