I have an RT-AC68U and cannot get the 384.6 firmware to "take". I'm on 384.5 and go through the update process and it seems to work fine but still shows 384.5 at the end. Tried doing a factory reset first and still no luck...
Is it an original RT-AC68U or is it a converted TMobile router?
Are you sure you have the correct firmware (not RT-AC86U instead of RT-AC68U)?

I might be in trouble as it is a converted TMO router. I did read the "read this first" but missed that this router isn't "officially" supported (I don't think there's a need to re-hash the is it a "real" RT-AC68U discussion).

not really in trouble, only searching in the wrong place.

Not sure if reported, not first time I've had this issue:
-RT-AC3200
-merlin firmware.
-skynet.
-IPCamsBlock.

-power failure recently happened & everything came back online.
-Internet connection came back up & according to the router everything was connected & even had ISP IP address & DDNS was active/connected.
-I could not ping anything nor could I access anything from my PC or any other device, except for the router itself.
-Could not access any other device on my network.
-I could however remotely connect to my router from my smartphone via VPN, but I couldn't access anything beyond router ie network cameras.
-Went into Firewall->Enable Firewall -> Yes: changed to No & back to Yes. Everything working normally again.

I've experienced this issue with previous firmware. How/where would I troubleshoot this, if at all?

Thanks.

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to document what happened. I just got an 86U, and immediately put 384.6 into it. Then spent an afternoon configuring all of my DHCP settings and static DHCP assignments, my VPN, and my VPN assignments. I then saved the JFFS file to my PC. I did all that off-line. Once done, I put my sparkling new router online in my network. BTW, my speedtest through the VPN increased from 20Mb with my old router to almost 70Mb on a line that is about 75Mb, so I'm getting the VPN speed benefit because of the BRCM SoC. Anyway, after a day, I tried to play with the USB settings, but after a reboot, I found that all my DHCP assignments were gone. I then re-entered them, then did something else (sorry, I cannot remember), went back to DHCP and again all the assignments were gone. Rebooted, but still gone. I then downloaded the JFFS settings a 2nd time, then opened up the NVRAM folder, and saw that the dhcp_staticlist file was there and that it contained all my previous assignments. So I deleted that file from the JFFS folder in the router using WinSCP, then tried to copy the previous dhcp_staticlist file back into that folder, but got a popup that there was insufficient room for that file. Hmmm. So I looked around the JFFS folder, and found an icon file that was about 64MB (28c68e3adedf.ico). I deleted that file (if it caused harm, I was going to reflash the firmware anyway, so why not try it), then transferred the dhcp_staticlist back into the NVRAM folder, and this time it transferred fine. Rebooted the router, and now all my DHCP assignments are there. BTW, before I deleted that icon file, I did a Properties on that JFFS folder and it reported the used storage to be 64MB. Now with that icon file gone, and with the restored dhcp_staticlist file there, the JFFS used reports about 1MB. So I wonder, if some of this flakiness of 384.6 is due to running out of room in the NVM because of that large unnecessary (?) icon file? Should I have done something that I did not do that would have deleted that file?

I own a RT-AC68U so not sure how much Merlins' 384.6 firmware differs between the two models, but there's no such icon file on my router...

Mine was in the usericon folder in the jffs folder. There is still another ico file there but it is only 10K or so in size.

Icons there are put there by users when they change them on the networkmap, it's not done automatically by the router.

In my case, I did not add intentionally add those icons. I am not aware that I ever accessed the networkmap that had icons. Like I said, this was a brand new router that I immediately put 384.6 in.

On my 86U running 364.6, I just opened a WAN port to allow remote access and I noticed this entry in the log...anything to be concerned about?

kernel: jffs2: warning: (713) jffs2_sum_write_data: Not enough space for summary, padsize = -1301

You might check to see if you also have that large icon file.

Hi telUK,

These are my settings under Wireless and Professional.

5GHz

Control channel: 44 (manually set)
Channel bandwidth: 20/40/80 mhz

Under Professional settings:

Airtime fairness: disabled (disabled by default in Merlin)
Universal beamforming: disabled (leave 802.11ac Beamforming enabled)

2.4GHz

Control channel: 6 (manually set)
Channel bandwidth: 20mhz (manually set)

Under Professional settings:

Turbo QAM: disabled
Airtime fairness: disabled (disabled by default in Merlin)
Beamforming settings: disabled (both)

Thanks again for this information, I just remembered another setting that Im wondering about, MU-MIMO, do you have this enabled or disabled.
I likely have very little devices that support it, Im guessing my Apple devices may, but that's about it I think.

Any idea on what this is about? I get them a couple of times a month.

After an up time of about 38 days, my router stopped responding to LAN and WAN requests and Wi-Fi networks disappeared again around 5 am and had to be turned off and on again. It had been working fine right up to that point (was up till around 4 am) and last time I checked memory usage was stable. As such I have no what happened, but at least I was home to power cycle it. This seems to happen from time to time.

Log file was useless as the only thing in it was a “dnsmasq[26519]: possible DNS-rebind attack detected” from a few hours prior, but I’ve seen those before.

ROUTER RUNNING GREATR , TO BSAD i had a massive stroke been out of action for over 3 weeks in hospital , no complaints from home of routr not working though sothat's good
