[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.6 is now available

FYI, a dirty upgrade of the now-released firmware of 384.6 on top of a previously forced update (as in deleting the required files and partitions) 384.5 on a router previously known as a TM-AC1900 worked perfectly, without, even, requiring a hard reboot.

Working perfectly on my RT-AC68U - thank you!

Could anyone please give me their recommendations for all settings on LAN-DHCP Server page? (privacy/security)
I am using OVPN and DNS.Watch servers. (connect to DNS servers automatically - set to No)

I’m guessing the text about being needed for the traffic analyzer is just wrong or maybe it’s only for the second page.

I do know that the "Statistics" tab of Traffic Analyzer uses Trend Micro and requires agreement to their popup.

btw im going to extend my network using aimesh, atm i have ac86u with merlin f/w, and plan on the aimesh router using ac68u with merlin f/w is it possible?
AiMesh is not supported.

I've had nothing but issues trying to do the same with my TM-AC1900 (converted to AC68U using the method found elsewhere in these forums under the AiMesh thread). This is the first firmware update (384.6) that I've ever had issues flashing to. In Chrome it says outright that there was a failure after the file is uploaded. In Firefox, it either 1) uploads the firmware and goes fully through the process, but then just reboots itself onto 384.5 still or 2) gets to the part where it says to manually restart, but then comes back up as a fresh install, again, still on 384.5 (reloading my saved config gets me back up without a problem.)

No matter what I do, it refuses to load 384.6.

How did you get it to work on this model?

Hi, I am trying to update my RT-AC68U 384.5 to this latest, but for some reason it does not update. It will show the "updating progress" bar but after refreshing the page it still says 384.5. I have tried factory reset -> unplug -> wait 2 mins -> upload 384.6 -> after restarting, still remains at 384.5

Any help appreciated. Thanks

I got an AC86U yesterday and set it up with 384.5 and a factory reset.

It has been a long time since I upgraded a Merlin firmware, as I left my AC68U on 380.59, the version before ASUS added their firmware check.

Can I get away with flashing 384.6 over 384.5 without a factory reset? I don't fancy setting it all up again so soon.

Thanks!

Try upgrading via Ethernet cable instead of WiFi. I have upgraded over WiFi many times before but did come across a similar issue with 384.6 beta upgrade. After retrying with a cable, everything went well.

My 86U was flashed from 384.5 to 384.6 (the beta, admittedly) without any issues whatsoever, and I didn't factory reset.

Updated with the new version but Im getting a recurring error message in my log on my RT-AC86U

Whilst I'm a long time Merlin user, the router prompting a new firmware version is new to me. Just so I know, you can't update directly within the router admin pages and you must go and download the firmware file first?

Thanks!

Notifications are configurable (on/off). You may have not waited long enough in the past after firmware release for the notification event to trigger.

Yes, download first. If you click that prompt (which you can disable in Tools>Other settings, btw), it will send you to the download page in any case.

Thanks

I have the same problem and this is the first firmware that I've had this issue with. Needs attention.

I think I will try to upgrade my 68U from .70 of the last build (380 branche) to this version as I did read a lot of good comments on the .5 beta version.
Also performing a complete clean install doing factory reset before and enter the settings manually. Will be next week when I'm back home again.

This has occurred periodically over the release history, but there has always been a solution. Try some of the following:
  1. Reboot the router.
  2. Remove all external drives.
  3. Connect to the router with a wired connection.
I have never had a failed upgrade where one of these methods did not resolve the issue.

I rebooted the router via power cycle and I don't have any external drives. I also tried the beta after the release wouldn't work.

Is it a 68U or a converted TM-1900? If the latter, this is the behavior you’ll experience. If not, try unplugging router for a few minutes and try again.
